Default Mechanics of a golf swing vs. mechanics of a hockey shot

I've heard that, ideally, a right handed person would golf right and shoot left for hockey.

I remember reading once that Canada has way more LH golfers,as a percentage, than the US, and it's thought that this is because many people that would ordinarily be RH golfers end up golfing LH as they are used to shooting LH in hockey.

According to that article, RH people would ideally shoot left in hockey and golf RH. This is because, in hockey, it is ideal for your dominant hand to be at the top of the stick, while in golf your dominant hand would ideally be the bottom hand on the grip of the golf club. As I understood the article, in the golf swing much of the power generated is from extending the bent inside arm (right arm for RH, left arm for LH golfers) thru the release of the golf swing. When shooting in hockey, power is generated by using the bottom hand as a fulcrum while the top hand applies force by pulling the stick towards the body.

Is this the case?

No. Power in golf doesn't come from the arms.

I thought power from both came from the sum of all the moving parts of the swing as based on how strong your core is?

I don't think they were suggesting that all the power in a golf swing comes from the arms.

Hmmm, I'm left handed, but shoot right and golf right.

Does that help you at all? I'm to tired to think anymore.

You're right, but you say 'much of the power' is generated by the trailing arm, which just isnt the case. This is to suggest that the trailing arm pushing through the release of the swing generates most of the power, and this simply isn’t the case. Power is generated by how quickly the hips 'snap' through the swing, and relatively speaking the arms almost mean nothing in terms of power.

Well I do things the "dominant" way, and it hasn't seemed to help my game in either sport.

But I have tried doing things the other way in both sports and it just don't feel right! Funny how people have different combinations with these things. One thing I've found consistent: the baseball swing and golf swing are pretty much universally the same handed.
