I started reading Ready Player One. Really liking it so far, pretty easy and quick read with tons of relevant 80's/90's references.
Recommend it for any sci-fi/gaming nerds out there.
Plus a movie coming out in 2018! Can't wait.

The Hornblower books by C.S. Forester and the Sharpe series by Bernard Cornwell will keep you happy for a long time to come.

I've read the first two Hornblower books, and Sharpe's Trafalgar, and enjoyed them. I read the first two books in the Flashman series this spring, and think that'll be my next series to pillage.

I may have to read The Stand now!
My mom had the complete version on her counter when I went to visit and asked if I wanted it. It's massive!

Just finished "The Grand Design" By Stephen Hawking.
Pretty good but most of the concepts are touched on by all of the different Astronomy tv shows out there. Gets pretty in depth though and presents some good thought experiments.

You'll want to get on the Flashman series posthaste, it will impact how you view other historical fiction.

I feel like a racist and a pervert when I read these on the CTrain. Supposedly there was going to be a new movie with Fassbender, but I'm not sure what happened with that.

Yes, they are extremely astute pieces of ironic satire. Totally necessary to read side-by-side with the Sharpe novels, as those are fun, but hilariously jingoistic.
Speaking of satire, I am now going through Tom Wolfe. On the docket:
- The Kingdom of Speech
- The Right Stuff
- Radical Chic, Mau-mauing the flak catchers, and the Painted Mind
- Hooking up

Just finished Ready Player One. Really enjoyed it. I'm not even a huge video game buff, but it was a fun ride. Short easy read if you're into classic video games and movies.

I just finished "What the Dog Knows: Scent, science, and the amazing ways a dog perceives the world" by Cat Warren. It's a very neat work on how Cadaver Dogs are trained and do their thing, as well as looking at the history of scent-detection dogs, and some of the science behind how they do what they do.

Just finished reading "A disappearance in Damascus". It paints a very human picture of the life of Iraqi refugees in Syria and how decisions by the American administration impacted the life of so many. Definitely worth reading.
