I'm also still around occasionally, lurking when family and career commitments allow. Surprised Trump hasn't motivated me to post my epic rants like the old Bush days... Lol

What happened to Cowperson?

Does anyone remember the late 1990s Yahoo groups Flames board?

I remember how exciting it was when the first calgarypuck came out and it became normal for people to post one or two replies a day on a topic. Was so much to read and interact with! Now it takes seconds for a thread to hit page two.

Time flies!

Cheers all,
Claeren

Other memories:
GRANT POLLOCK
The creepy Regehr obsessed fan.
Various Flames and media lurkers, every so often coming out of hiding, more so then than now.
The lead up to the brief reputation system experiment, and the incessant whining that shut that down.
Johnny Flame!!!!1 vs Lanny vs MMF (wherever he is now, and that was under his old handle anyways) A lot of messages that would be insta-time outs now between those guys, and in general, the board has been sanitized over the years.
Sundeep from Edmonton, still likely shopping at the FCUK store at WEM out of principal and enjoying the green grass in the river valley.
The Wanamaker thread, the 2010 Vancouver Opening Ceremonies thread, the Vancouver riot thread.

I have faint childhood memories of lurking the old boards but didn't really sign up until this iteration of things before the cup run. As a kid I was a big newsgroup user, I think I was on alt.sports.hockey.nhl.clgry-flames

Someone should put together a history of all the board, famous members, big events, and controversies.

Wanamaker. Remember when David Moss threw out the "Vote Wanamaker" during an interview?

Best Calgary Puck line ever: When former Flame Don Lever turned pro coach was mentioned in a thread.

Someone responded "there must be 50 ways to love your Lever."

Another memory is Calgarypuck rightfully flaming Eric Francis about one of his craptacular pieces, only to have his editor Martin Hudson from Sun Media sign up to defend Francis's honour. Unsurprisingly we gave Hudson a collective scissorkick to the solarplexus and he was run out of here.

Haha, no I don't remember that but that is awesome. My avatar was suggested by one of the Russians in that thread since I guess Icarus is a type of bus or something in Russia? I was told that should be my avatar.

I started out on the old canoe forum and then kept following. Its hard to believe how long its been.
Met some great people here.
Cheese (doodle)
Grantus Maximus (JiriHrdina)
Kamping Kris (Kevanguy)
Reggie Dunlop
Lanny MacDonald (I miss him)
Habby (Habernac)
Josef (my fellow German)

Dont recall ever meeting Cowperson but I miss his posts.

the list goes on and on. (apologies to those I missed)

I played in the inaugural Heckle and the following one as well. (fondly remember the Eckville Heckle and skating out on to the ice hearing the ice crackle. Frack it was cold in that ole barn)

Never one to start new threads very often...it actually took me to page 8 before I found one I started on that link from earlier.

Calgarypuck has been a constant with me for the last 20 years. Its helped me with information since i moved from Calgary and its certainly helped me with my businesses over the years. So thank you for that.

I hope you can all see the picture. Not sure if Photobucket still allows one to post pics here.

LOL. I still remember the awkwardness of approaching that persons proxy because they got abducted the night before. Felt like some sinister covert exchange.

I lurked for a while before joining and I can't believe it has been 20 years. Feels like just yesterday we were randomly picking players to boo because they ate kittens. It could just the nostalgia, but the old game threads I remember them being overly optimistic with those goal lamps. Bit of a change from now days.

Ha! Look at all the wood sticks in that picture.

Thanks for posting this, that was a fun time. I can name most of these faces still.

Does anyone know where Johnny is now? Does he post anywhere else?

Speaking of Johnny Flame and Lanny et al...there should be a clemency thread started to grant pardons.

I wonder if ol' MMF will ever come back. I had a chat with him after he was banned and I'd be all for seeing him get another crack at this.

All I remember of that was having a red dot one day, then a blue dot the next, then back to red. Then blue. Then, if the universe was in perfect alignment, grey. Never did get to two dots, I don't think - one way or another.

My arrival was at the height of the Branch Savardian drama. That was fun.

Are you sure he's not back already? Maybe he's walking around here with a little Spring in his step.

I might be a terrible detective, but using hashtags on forums is just terrible in general.

What if there were an account that sat inactive for the better part of a decade and is now posting regularly in a bunch of threads he used to post in? Would that be a sign?

Wouldn't be the first person to have created an extra account as back up many years ago to protect against inevitable banning.
