IIRC, the downturn in the stock market hit him hard.

All Jagr is, is a story anymore. He won't help win.

Vegas clearly has no intention of competing this season and Neal goes UFA this time next year.
I wonder what it would take?
He'd be such a good fit on the top line RW.

I keep wondering about this as well. Wonder if BT has kicked any tires on that, I'd imagine he's at least thought about it.

2017/2018 Trade Speculation and Rumors
Would not surprise me in the least if Montreal or LA were pushing hard for Neal, and they have far more bargaining chips to work with than Tre does. Nice as it would be to add another winger I think we're better served conserving the assets we have left and filling that position from within.
Ferland and Bennett certainly have more to give so it's not that far fetched. Not to mention we haven't even seen yet what we have in Jankowski and Foo.

Neal would likely cost a 1st round pick +, a price Calgary likely won't want to give up. I actually expect that Vegas will hang onto him until the trade deadline.

"Calgary kicking tires on Jagr"
Iggy to the Hawks is possible
I believe the Jagr-Flames "rumor" likely comes from the Fan soon there little attempt to bring Jagr here. Boomer said this morning he doesn't think there is any legit interest in Jagr from the Flames higher ups

Well every Panther he played with was better with Jagr on the ice than without, so he'll help someone. 46 points at 45, you should be so good at your job in the twilight of your career

I was hoping for Jagr just because I loved him as a player before, but deep down I didn't think he would really help.
I have been following what has been happening with him this past off-season, and I have done a bit of a 180 on my expectations of him on the Flames. I think he would really help. His CF is good. Really good. Top 20 in the league. Barkov and Huberdeau without Jagr actually drop. 5on5 Production is good too - equal to that of Radulov.
I had no idea. I think he would actually be a GOOD addition, not just from a silly fanboy hope perspective, but from an actual positive contributor to winning games. Jagr has my vote.
Edit: Proof in the pudding.

Yeah the thing with Jagr last year was that you could clearly tell there were a couple times of the year where he could have used some time off.
A team with good depth would be smart to sign him but as part of the contract negotiation tell him he's only playing 60 games and is getting a game off every week to recover.
Rest him on back to backs and on the trips with long travel days between games. Believe the Flames used Lanny in a similar way during the 88/89 season.
Of the old veterans (Jagy, Iggy, Doan, etc) he was still the best of the bunch last year even at 45 years old.

On the right team, I truly believe Jagr can still put up 50+ points. Iginla would also still be helpful and still be somewhat of an impact and can likely boost a teams PP while also bringing some toughness and grit. Doan in my opinion is useless at this point. He may get a shot with a team mainly looking for some mentoring and leadership.

Which isn't that shocking, since Jagr was better than all of them at every other stage of their respective careers as well, except for that blip in Washington during which Iggy was better.

I mean, I don't know what to tell you other than "he's not". Jagr is a useful player on a number of NHL teams. His salary ask needs to come down but there's no way Jaromir doesn't start the season with somebody.

I also think that Iginla will have a bounce-back season as well. Bounce-back being a relative term here (he isn't getting 30 goals for instance). I just think that the entire Avs team were lousy (except Comeau, who sucks but did well).
Maybe only sucky players experience success on a sucky team? Anyways, in the right situation, I do think that both Iginla and Jagr can contribute both on and off the ice. I agree with Young Guns - those two can, Doan is probably done.

That's fine. I'm hoping it's somewhere else than Calgary. He is going to hit a wall, hard. I would bet it's this year.

Jagr, Doan and Iginla will also all fill the "win it for the old guy" rallying cry for their respective teams.

Even if he does hit a wall just rest him
Like others have said, I'm surprised it's not done more
In the NBA it's becoming commonplace now to give older players a rest on back to backs or 4 in 6's etc, but a guy like jagr or Iginla has no need to be playing in back to backs until March maybe
Maybe even rest them a few other times as well, or just have games where they move down the lineup and play powerplay time and then 5-10 minutes of even strength

This whole idea sounds like a team that has won a couple of cups in the last few years that's in cap trouble trying to hang on.
