Fox isn't a CHL player so he could have even played in the AHL this season like Kylington did.

The only exception is players that are in the CHL on loan from their European team, like Honka and Alex Nylander.

Phillips with a strong strong shift - started a big rush and cut into the middle fearlessly but got stopped looking five hole.

Kid is a blast to watch with the puck.

With Gillies called up, looks like Stockton Heat Goaltending coach Colin Zulianello will dress as backup goaltender.

He last played in the ECHL back in 04/05. 38 years old

Haha, and they've had 3 goalies kicking around for months and as soon as they loan McCollum to Charlotte they need him.

Aagaard. 2-2!

Maybe there's a player in that kid.

edit: credited to Kostka, but the announcers seem convinced that Aagaard got a tip on it.

3-2 bad guys on the PP. Chipped a rebound over Rittich. About 10 minutes left.

5-4 shootout win!

Frattin (17) ASST: Aagaard (3), Klimchuk (19)
Mangiapane (13) ASST: Jankowski (20), Hathaway (9)
Mangiapane (14) ASST: Kostka (12), Vey (28) PP
Aagaard (2) ASST: Kostka (13), Wotherspoon (10)

Shootout:
Vey: Goal
Mangiapane: No Goal
Not needed

Heat have now passed Bakersfield with .528 vs .527 with a game in hand. If playoffs started today Bakersfield would miss and the Heat would go against San Jose.

.. u know what I'm leaving this post up... just realized this was last game lol

^

in tonight's game though, San Diego held off Stockton to win 3-2. Rittich was really good, at least when I watched.

Also, another Kylington update

He's a breakout machine, such a great skater and great breakout passes
He's kind of clueless in the o-zone when he gets there
He still struggles defensively due to being a lot smaller than a lot of guys, he definitely needs to add strength
He doesn't handle a forecheck very well, maybe not thinking fast enough idk
He's still super fun to watch and is showing progress imo

Just perusing through some Heat stats since I hadn't looked in a while.

Poirier hasn't played since Feb 18th and before that hadn't scored in 13 games.

Shinkaruk with just 1 goal in his last 26 games, and goalless in 11 games.

Pribyl with just 1 goal and 2 assists in his last 14 games, and hasn't played since the 8th of March. What, is he injured AGAIN?

What is it with these bums? Get it together FFS.

All three of them under contract for another year too, wasting contract spots, and taking up oxygen down in Stockton.

Pribyl seems like he's made of glass, but one more year might not be too bad for him, but Poirier and Shinkaruk are clearly going the wrong direction now. I usually like to take the optimistic route, but it's not looking good.

At least Janko, Magiapane and Klimchuk seem to be trending the right way, hopefully they can keep that going and not pull a "ShinkaPoirier"

So tired of our skilled prospects who aren't top picks fizzling out.

The odd Ferland, Bouma and Hathaway are nice and all, but our farm system hasn't produced a top six forward since Backlund.

Yeah Poirier and Shinkaruk are big disappointments, but even though they are skilled in some aspects, they were also drafted later in the 1st round for a reason. In both cases I think skating is a detriment for both of them. Plus maybe they don't have enough "heart" to do what it takes to make the NHL.

With Gillies still up with the NHL, Heat have recalled McDonald from Adirondack.

They also recalled Kanzig from the Thunder while assigning Culkin to Adirondack.

It's so frustrating.

Poirier had 19 goals in the AHL as a 19 year old rookie and was an all-star IIRC.

Shinkaruk had 27 goals in the AHL last year.

You know they have the ability but just lose all confidence and fall off a cliff.

It's why I'm wary of what Janko and Mangia are doing this year. Looked like we had something in those other two and then they just crumble into nothing.

And maybe the mantra of "Can't overcook a prospect" is wrong?

Meh. I highly doubt if you'd gifted either Shinkaruk or Poirier an NHL roster spot this season they'd be full fledged NHLers right now.

I do think that some Flames prospects don't think there is much hope for them to ever make the big team unless they're high picks or have other serious investment into them.

Wotherspoon looked ready after last year, and Brad went out and signed Grossmann to fill that spot. Then it looked like he might have been ready to be called up again and he goes out and signs Bartkowski.

For Poirier, he would have seen the team go out and sign a bunch of RW's this summer that would fill any hole that he may have been able to fill himself. Management is very, very hesitant (rightly or wrongly, I don't know) to leave a hole and expect a prospect to be able to fill it. Obviously, if you have this sort of mindset, you're probably not going to make it anyways, but there has to be at least a little hope.

I think that's a huge problem, but I don't think it's with the team but with the players. They seem to think they are "entitled" to an opportunity with the NHL club, and when they don't get it they seem to go in the tank.

If Poirer or Shinkaruk can't beat an 18 year old straight from junior out of a top 9 wing spot, then that's on them. If they are going to go to Stockton and give up and quit producing in the AHL because of it then the sooner they are gone from the organization, the better.

EDIT: Also in reference to your Bartkowski and Grossman example, they cut Grossman loose right away and gave Wotherspoon/Kulak plenty of time and chances to take that last spot and run with it. After months of them not taking the bull by the horns BT went out and got Bartkowski who has looked better than both right from the get go.

Heat gave up the first goal, but goals:

Jankowski from Vey and Kostka
Hathaway from Mangiapne
Bollig

Have the Heat up 3-1 over San Jose (1st place team in the division)

edit:
now SJ scores

3-2 after 1 period
