Trying to get ROR is not going for it now...he is 22. That move alone is not an issue

Even worse, Sportsnet.ca is reporting that if the Flames had successfully landed O'Reilly, they likely never would have got him in uniform because he would have had to go on waivers first after playing in the KHL on Jan. 23rd.

Yikes.

After watching Damien Cox on the TSN panel, I'm pretty sure the "Clueless and Pointless" bit refers to him.

Feaster tried to get a centre again & failed again. Not really a huge deal.

anyone that thinks a 50 pt two way center should be compensated at 6.5 million dollars is insane.
another bullet dodged by Feaster, but its pretty clear he going to do something stupid and cripple this franchise further...

Ugh, please don't use Cox as support for anything. That guy doesn't have an opinion, just tries to generate page hits by spinning a story to aggravate people. The name of his little blog there is called, "The Spin" FFS.

Sad and depressing. The worst is that you're powerless to affect change. You can only watch these clowns dance around the bonfire.

Like him or not, there's not much wrong with what he stated in that article.
This organization is gong show city right now.

What a terrible article.
First, he argues the Flames need to step back and rebuild, insinuating that we should capitalize on a high draft pick. Then he criticizes the team for bolstering a division rival. Which is it, Cox?
Next he talks about setting the price for an RFA center at $6.5 million. That's not how it works. Is the price for RFA defencemen $12 million thanks to Tyler Myers? No, it's set by the cap average of the contract, you dummy. Thirdly, does anyone use offer sheet totals as arbitration figures or comparables? Highly unlikely. Everybody knows its a distortion of value.
I don't disagree with the general premise -- that the organization is perhaps deluding itself at present -- but his points are just wrong or contradictory.

I also think the Cammalleri move isn't all about short term as he argues. He misconstrues it by describing it without Bourque or Ramo involved. There's enough evidence to support his point otherwise so it seems pretty dumb to be trying to stretch the truth just to go further.

the point was setting the market for a 50 pt two way centerman (with one good year under his belt) at 6.5 million. That's the number he'll be qualified at.

Still doesn't matter what he's qualified at, even if he accepts the QO. The "market being set" is not some mathematical rule that people have to follow in negotiations.

Not often you see agents going for less money unless its a hometown discount or a ridiculously long contract term though.
No one is obligated to follow any precedent set in other player negotiations. But they do.

I'd still do that Cammalleri trade over and over again. Was an absolutely fantastic trade that we won without question.
Cammalleri back? Check
Cammalleri still has years left and is incredibly talented? Check
Cammalleri is fantastic in the locker room we hope to fill with young talent? Check
Bourque is gone? Check
We have a goalie prospect to potentially replace Kipper? Check
What'd we lose to return all this? Patrick Holland (5G 11A 51GP in the A) and a 2nd (we did also gain a 5th)
IMO... still a fleecing.
I also agree with above. There is no way ROR is a 'win now' player. He's an asset that can contribute immediately and fits right in with the age group we are hoping to attain moving forward. He would have been a long-term pivot (if he ever made it here).
I also don't agree that our 1st is in play. Clearly Feaster saw ROR as a better player than what we'd pick with our (currently) 5th overall. Debatable for sure (I don't agree) but that was his valuation. I definitely don't see this as a sign that he's set to mortgage our future to win now.

I don't love Cox, but where is he wrong? I'll give Feaster some credit for drafting decently, but this O'Reilly move is absurd.
Let's face it - if the deal had gone through and O'Reilly had hit waivers, Feaster would already be gone.

Damien Cox is a dolt. However, his assessment of the Flames is on target.
