So no one would have a problem if (for example), the Chinese ambassador to Canada manhandled a Canadian protestor at a ceremonial event in Ottawa?

In the context of having someone suddenly jump up screaming right beside you and a group of very high ranking dignitaries? No, I wouldn't have a problem with another country's ambassador simply pulling the person away from the group.

But to flip your question, longsuffering, how would you feel if Vickers did nothing and that guy turned out to have a knife and stabbed someone with it?

To wit: Making the foreign diplomat Chinese was something of an appeal to emotion.

Though not nearly as bad as some people on Reddit were. "What if it was a Native (or climate change) protester?!?"
