Why do people hate science? I don't get how people will throw away hundreds or thousands of dollars at things that are pretty easy to research and realize they don't work at all.

As for placebos, I'm all for them.

Placebos would be a great way to kerb the massive antibiotic abuse problem we have. Someone shows up with bronchitis, pink eye, or something else that is viral 99.5% of the time, and you know they'll be pissed if you don't provide them with some pills to make their visit worthwhile? Here's your placebo fake antibiotics. Now rest and fluids and all that as well.

It would be great.

Hadn't realized acupuncture had been so widely discredited.

would be pretty amazing to see how that played out legally.

the doctor assumed me that if I took these antibiotic pills that my bronchitis or pink eye would go away. But it didn't, and when I got the pills checked they were sugar pills.

So he frauded me, lied about what I put in my body and he practiced general quackery

It is much better to help train the patient that antibiotics won't help in this case. Prescribing placebo antibiotics just perpetuates the usage of antibiotics for everything. Plus it would reduce trust in the medical profession, which could allow pseudo - BS to gain a bigger foothold.

Sure some of us will die, but by the same mechanism, some of us won't and will build a resistance for future generations. The cosmic dance continues.
