New Flames book by George Johnson (now available in stores)
George Johnson has always been one of my favorite Flames writers over the years -- he will be releasing a new book on October 15 that I'm sure some CP'ers might be interested in:
Preview per the Amazon link ComixZone provided:
Quote:
Most Calgary Flames fans have attended a game at the Scotiabank Saddledome, seen highlights of a young Theo Fleury, and remember where they were when the team won the Stanley Cup in 1989. But only real fans know what the team traded to acquire Miikka Kiprusoff, the best place to grab a bite before the puck drops, or who served as the radio voice of the Flames before Peter Maher. 100 Things Flames Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die is the ultimate resource guide for true fans of Calgary hockey. Whether you're a die-hard fan from the days of Al MacInnis or a new supporter of Johnny Gaudreau, this book contains everything Flames fans should know, see, and do in their lifetime.

This looks interesting and I might pick it up, but the cover looks like it was designed by someone who is merely aware that graphic design exists as a concept. Five fonts?! Red stripes on the side that clash with the jersey?

If we're critiquing the cover, we might as well be thorough.

If Johnson is writing a book on the Flames I expect it will be of very high quality and entertaining.
I'm looking forward to it.

Between Kelly Hrudey and George Johnson that's a couple of good reads i'll be buying my brother for Christmas. Excellent timing.

It's part of a larger series, and the title of these books is so unbelievably stupid. I have the Blue Jays version, and it's basically just 100 facts around the team's history. Some things you can do. Most you can't, because you can't travel back in time. Still, the Blue Jays one is a solid little history of the team, and I expect no less from George Johnson here.

The title may sound corny, but George Johnson is my favourite sports writer. I'm sure the book will be an enjoyable read.

Should definitely be a better read than that factually inaccurate crap book that Spector wrote about the Battle of Alberta. I think he says Ryan Suter is Gary Suters son in that book. But then who would expect the #1 cheerleader for the Greasers to be accurate in any facts concerning the Flames?

Bump -- this is now available for purchase in stores (Indigo TD Square had several copies). Fairly substantial book (320 pages).
Taking a quick look at the table of contents and various sections, it is less about listing obscure facts and more about stories and anecdotes about various players, events etc. in Flames history. They also have similar versions for the Oilers, Habs, etc. Looking forward to digging into this on the weekend -- George Johnson alone makes it a thumbs up for me.
