And as he watched the Hundred Acre Wood get cut, torched and paved Gentle Ben was pushed just too goddamned far...never again would he be 'Gentle' Ben.

Now...he has to embark upon the Impossible Task of destroying every goddamned thing in his path.

Now...he is 'Barbaric Ben.'

Oh and theres some scared lady in the background for some reason.

Yeah but it’s one of those hypotheticals that doesn’t lead to a real answer.

If hiking? Like the thing that thousands of people do all the time, including women, really often on trails with, get this, parking lots, some people would legit rather run into a ####ing bear than a man? Like, you can’t hike a mile in the province without running into someone else, 50/50 it’s a male. Someone suggesting it’s better it be a bear?

I don’t know man, it’s like, I get it. It demonstrates something to say ‘bear’ but I don’t know how that translates to reality at all.

Just listened to a podcast that was pretty relevant to this I thought.

https://youtu.be/HAmQ7Tcrh6A?si=pJOwal__AicCqfPR

It's a long one but one of the quotes was basically you've got a man committing a thousand bad things towards women and society believing it's a thousand men committing a bad thing towards women.

It's a thought experiment. It's not an actual situation, but you're supposed to think about why so many women would choose the bear and, although things are a lot better than they used to be, there are still things men can do make women feel, and be, safer. That goes for those of us who aren't violent or abusive or being harassive towards women.

Thats not the question being asked. You need to have a metric for incidents per encounter. So in the US there are probably 2 billion encounters between men and women a day. That is probably an underestimate of how many people come across each other each day.. So you have 600 rapes / 2 billion encounters vs 40 or so bear attacks in Canada per year / x encounters.

I fully acknowledge that I have the privilege to look at it statistically and that the statistical look is not the point.

You could also look at it as incidents per population of human or bear and then humans murder at a rate of 1/20000 or so compared to bears and like 2/1000000. In that case bears are less dangerous for both men and women
I think we can only really speculate on what would happen in the presumed scenario of a solitary woman isolated miles from anyone else.

100 encounters with a bear, and there are likely a few attacks. Though if we can narrow it to a solitary healthy bear (no cubs) who is aware of the woman before the woman is aware of the bear, I think it could be as low as 0 or 1 or 2 out of 100.

Run that scenario for 100 different solitary healthy men who are aware of the woman before the woman is aware of them...maybe 0 or 1 or 2 immediately attempt rape, but I'd bet a dozen or more lean heavily into the implication, and things escalate to varying degrees if she says no. (but she's not going to say no...because of the implication)

(obviously not a laughing matter, but I think it would literally play out like this too often

Depends on who it is. I'd probably opt for a random man, honestly.

If it's Jay Random I'd rather get mauled by a bear. Bears can't gaslight my brain into oblivion.
