That shiv (not convinced it was the elbow at all and Button seems to believe the same) was greasy and slimy. Matthew wasn't "Bracing for impact", he was trying to do exactly what he did. I think he got lucky the elbow didn't end up higher and Doughty ate more shoulder/arm than anything else.
I said it in Gt, I don't care this time. Flames have traditionally been pushed around by the big Pacific teams in the past and this year, the Flames need to have that "Don't you dare think about effing with us or we will rip your head off" swagger walking into the playoffs.
I'm more confident now that we can push back against the Ducks or Sharks in a playoff round.
We now have a Cory Perry for our team.

The player has dodged discipline a few times this year, where something could have happened.
Therefore the NHL has to do something this time.
What that is, no one knows.

Tkachuck was in the box, as was Pearson. Both deserved penalties for their initial hits, but got penalties for the subsequent scrum. So nothing would have changed in that regard. It would have been 4 on 4 either way.

Forbort and Tkachuk each got 2 for roughing. Pearson got nothing. But fair enough maybe.
I'm just saying the league likes to leave things be settled on the ice, when it can be. I expect they would have been satisfied with a Kings pp resulting from everything. Instead, the Flames scored twice in the next couple minutes.

Then they should talk to the officials... they're the ones who can "satisfy" them. Although really the officials should just call infractions whenever they see them.

Had an idea!
|
Ray Ferraro said on Twitter that he thinks it should be interference. Said Doughty doesn't have puck, so why the hit?
Not sure I agree/disagree. Lots of people create contact with the player defending them to create some space. The NHL doesn't really call it anything.

I enjoyed it immensely.
Sure he'll get suspended for a game or two, but I loved how he stopped that cocky prick Doughty.
Imo the hit afterwards was just as malicious.

I think he avoids suspension. The subsequent reaction from Oilers fans on HF will be worthy of an ATL Report.

At most I see a fine. It's not like he's Raffi Torres taking a 120 foot run at a guy. Both guys are more or less stationary and the other guy get's a shot. For every dollar Tkachuk might get fined for delivering the shot. Doughty should receive the same for the dive.
There's no way I'd let some greasy little 19 year old put me on my arse with a shot to the face unless he did Raffi Torres me....or I was acting. This was an act.

Re Tkachuk's hearing, Loubo on Hockey Central at Noon on Fan 960 just said he thinks Tkachuk gets another warning and maybe a fine. He doesn't think a suspension is warranted, but if one is determined to be warranted by the NHL it will be at most one game.
Loubo says Tkachuk was maybe crossing the line, but it's a signal to other teams that there is a new Flames attitude and other teams need to get used to it.
