Bourque was a 1st and has played well since he was drafted. The odds of drafting a NHLer in the 2nd vs a late first isn't dramatically different. Take Bourque and a lessor pick IMO.
If you can get both fine, but I doubt you can and the Flames draft well past the 1st round. Just keep adding bullets and NHL ready prospects.

Bourque>1st.
If Dallas is reluctant to give up a first, they are not giving up Bourque.

I liked the 2nd + Dellandrea package that was rumored a couple days ago.
Dellandrea kind of got passed by the depth in the Stars organization...but think he could be more effective with more opportunity.

Has any team resigned a ufa player after dealing them? Call me skeptical but in a room full of ruthless guys, seems to be one of those ones that may be against the code (akin to having a deal in place before the trade happens). Just doesn’t seem kosher and may impact their future trades I’d think.

Blues traded Douglas weight to Carolina. Beat Edmonton to win a cup and signed with the blues in the offseason

Maybe a 2nd and a 5th?
or 2024 2nd and 2026 2nd?
Of course, I'd prefer a first but those two options isn't bad if no one is offering a first

That'll be the case with all contending teams.
The 2nd is the floor.
The question is will someone step up with a better offer.
If not you take the best 2nd you can get.

My guess is there's a third piece out there is they are now considered frontrunners.

Seems like a fever dream but yes.
What a weird time for the Flames. They also brought back Tanguay.
Just wackiness.

Draft Pick

Interesting seeing a lot of folks high on Mavrik Bourque.
In my opinion if we can’t get a 1st for Tanev, Stankoven has to be the centre of any package from Dallas.
Stankoven>Bourque in my opinion. He plays similar to Gallagher with that type of jam for a smaller player but with way more offensive instincts and touch than Gallagher. He also has a better offensive pedigree than Bourque. I certainly hope the flames are targeting him.

Yes, but I don’t think many were pleased when he was brought back.

Sure but you aren't getting the Stars' number one prospect.
People are proposing Bourque because it's generally believed that Stankoven isn't possible at all.
Bourque may not be either.

It seems the Stars like Stankoven better too. He is a year younger than Bourque and received a call-up first.

Hopefully with Stankoven's showing they may feel Bourque could be expendable

I think we leaked this news to up offers.
The deal is getting close. Must be a 2nd and prospect and the leak is to tempt a GM to offer the 1st.
