I am interested in the systems + Bennett / Tkachuk / Kylington. Not too worried about the rest of the roster.

4th overall... that's practically a 2nd rounder.

I wouldn't be shocked if the NHL & the PA worked out a deal for the players that went that they get a couple games off before they get into full games.

On top of that they probably just picked him 4th because the draft magazines said he was suppose to go 3rd. Completely caught off guard and didn't have a jersey with his name on it. He is an after thought.

Chiarelli also completely butchered the pronunciation of his name. That management group has a horseshoe up its ass.

They seemingly ditched their entire draft plan when Puljujarvi became available. Rather than take a moment to assess what they could do with having the player available at that pick (trade down etc) they grabbed him. Could have helped their D with a trade and then grabbed another D with a later 1st.

What makes it even funnier is all the articles the next day saying how smart Chiarelli was for sniffing things out before the draft started. The oilers had a good 30 mins to put a name bar on the jersey.

Hi Ryan,

Thanks for taking the time to ask.

Players

Elliott
-How good is he at playing the puck outside of the crease? Gulutzan's system may force a lot more enemy dump ins.

Tkachuk - Bennett - Brouwer
Their on-ice chemistry can be pretty easily gauged, but there may be stuff that the audience at home misses. Like little shots in defence of a linemate, or discussions on the bench.

Bollig
Is he physical? Did he remember how to actually play hockey?

Kylington
How much is his slighter build holding him back from NHL-level physicality?

Tuulola
Does he still have the confidence and swagger that endeared us to him during developmental camp?

Systems
-Gulutzan wanted the defencemen pressuring at around the blue line - how do the forwards support that pressure? Does the center pick up speed to help chase down pucks in the corner on dump ins? He stressed gap control in his defenceman compendium on YouTube.

-He also wanted a much tighter-knit defensive breakout formation with the forwards coming in and providing outlet lanes. What does the far-side winger do? Does he charge in through the center and pick up speed? Does he hold at the opposition blue line for a tip-in dump? Does he cherry pick?

So me and Mrs Champ decide to go to Edmonton to watch the Flames play the Oilers in the new building. we get there and some grinning idiot Oiler lackey see's us staring at our tickets and comes over to help us out.

so anyways he looks at the tickets, and asks me if he can check out Mrs Champs seat?

I say what?

He repeats himself, he wants to check out Mrs Champ's seat.

Well I snap I lose it, I pummel the little geek with some dusty Stanley cup replica from the 80's and then I grab the head off of the mascot, some stupid looking Lynx and jam it down on his head and start punching out his stupid furry face.

Then the loser starts to crawl away and I grab some Oiler's jersey off of the ice where it was sitting and start choking the little weasel with it until his face turns Oiler blue and he's hammering the floor with his hands in a symbol of surrender.

As the dork's crawling away, I shout after him How's that checking out Mrs Champs seat?

Ever since then I've been the champ.

Gillies going the full way in net in Edmonton. Elliott and McDonald will split in Calgary. #Flames

Doesn't sound like they are really worried about winning, but rather giving the experience that is needed to the prospects that need it, plus good viewings for the fans (i.e. Elliott, et al). Good philosophy for training camp.

Really thought we'd see Pollack - Jankowski - Poirier as a line.

It doesn't seem as that is it, we are dressing players that participated in the Tournament.

They just need to setup an easy excuse for losing the first NHL game in the new building to the Flames, exhibition or not. Not playing the saviour against us until the season opener will make our second straight victory in the mullet even sweeter.
