Strike one off to rehab, and probably a plea bargain.

Going into rehab (the pool party) is like going through an airport. The vip side is just as tight and there is no special walk by pass. It's literally a maze of hallways with a couple checkpoints.
So how does one get arrested for possession... Easy, by being stupid.

Jarret Stoll arrested for cocaine possession in Las Vegas
Whoever sold to him can use the "Party Like a King!" Tag line for the rest of the summer at least

This is just stupid from the tourism perspective. I cannot understand what they are thinking charging somebody for conaine possession in Vegas.
I know I am never going to go the the MGM Grand again after hearing this about how they let their guests get treated.

Not sure if it is the MGM as some articles say MGM and others say Rehab Pool Party (which is at the hard rock and no affiliated with the MGM)

It honestly makes me sad how much substance abuse there is in this league. I think it all starts in Canadian Major Junior and that's ****ed. While stories of guys overcoming these things, like Ferland, McGrattan, Ribiero, and Fleury are nice, you'd wish there were no stories at all. The majority of NHL teams probably have a few problem kids and it seems they all came up through Major Junior... the problem is cultural.

I've been to a lot of the Vegas pool parties, and they search EVERYTHING. When you go in all you're wearing is board shorts and flips, so only a total maroon tried to smuggle drugs in.
Assuming you get them in, you have to deal with security cameras everywhere else, and a server whose job it is to take care of you (aassuming he was in a cabana). Not a lot of time or space to get high, Jarrett.
I saw a cabana get busted for weed when I was there a few years back. It was full on Miami Vice, walk of shame in handcuffs. They take it pretty seriously which is fine by me.

Haha "letting" a guest get busted for doing cocaine of his own volition in a public pool area is enough to make you boycott a Casino/Hotel? I don't even understand how that's poor treatment by the hotel, whichever one it was.

No, the problem is being young, having millions of dollars, tons of beautiful women wanting you, and lots of free time

I would presume the percentage of users in the NHL is fairly similar to those in the general population in that age group... Some might argue higher because of their income, but I think it may only be the frequency that changes with income.
You have given a few examples. Do you have evidence though that it is a serious problem and the numbers are drastically different than general pop? I think it would be unusual if we never heard of any cases whatsoever.

I've heard some stories about this guy and some other players going back to his days in Edmonton. The fact that he got caught in Vegas is quite a shame.

Ya getting caught in Vegas is probably pretty common. I know people who have been busted. Sometimes you get kicked out sometimes cops get involved. I think people have a perception of anything goes in Vegas but they are pretty strict. Booze and good decisions don't really go well together either.

NHL star Jarret Stoll tried to smuggle an 8-ball of cocaine and 8 grams of Molly into a Vegas pool party ... by hiding them in his board shorts ... this according to the police report obtained by TMZ Sports.
The L.A. Kings player was busted around 4:30 PM on Friday while going through the security area -- that EVERYONE goes through -- on the way in to the Wet Republic pool party at the MGM Grand.
Despite the sign CLEARLY warning people that they will be patted down on the way inside, Stoll took his chances ... and a Wet Republic security guard found a pink baggie with white powder and numerous "gel-caps" with an off-white powder inside consistent with the drug "Molly."
According to the police report ... when asked if the powder inside the baggie was coke, Stoll said, "Yes."
Cops say Stoll had 3.3 grams of coke ... and 8.1 grams of Molly.
