15-2 Gas-Oil hydrotreater, part of the bitumen upgrader at Syncrude, not the mine per se. That's a significant fire and will be an expensive fix. It's twin, 15-1, blew up in the early 90's and the rebuild was long and complex compounded by super cold conditions. Not good for Syncrude that's for sure.

I'd heard it was in the naphtha hydrotreater but seems as though you have more detailed info. This is especially bad for Syncrude because they only make one product (sweet synthetic) and need all plants to make it. So this pretty much brings them down flat for a while. Unlike a Suncor who could continue to mine and just sell sour synthetic.
Yep, they'll pull feed from all the secondary processing units until the emergency is stabilized and they know what they're dealing with. After that they've got other units that can produce but this will cost them 70 - 80K bbls/day (est.) long term.
