Nice beach, if you don't mind swimming in Lake Erie.
I live in St. Thomas so I can fill in a bit more. As CliffFletcher said, it is a 20 minute drive down Wellington Rd to London. I am not going to touch on the employment opportunities here as you don't need them by the sounds of things but it is not as bad as all that. There are still some major factories like Format Industries and Presstran as well as North Star Windows. There are about 38,000 here but the real incentive is it is much cheaper to live here then in London. You can get a beautiful house in the Lake Margaret area that would be twice as much in London without the beautiful scenery. As for London it is a great city, lots to do, Knights games and concerts at Budweiser Gardens, lots of beautiful parks, lots of children oriented play places if you have little ones. Crime is really low too for a city with half a million people. As for weather it can be quite wonkey in the winter, especially at this time of year. We had one day last week where it was +15 and thunderstorms and by night it was -3. This winter has been really mild, not a lot of snow and more days above freezing than below it. Summers are hot and humid. We are talking +30. If you are in St. Thomas then Port Stanley beach is 10 minutes down the road. Lake Erie used to be a pollution dumping zone back in the 80's but they put strict regulations on it and have cleaned it up and the water quality is actually pretty good now. Summer is full of people swimming in the lake. As far as I know I am the only Calgary Flames fan in St. Thomas, this area tends to be either Leaf or Red wing fans. If you want to go see the Flames live I recommend Detroit, it is the same drive distance as Toronto and you can obtain much better seats at cheap prices, Toronto games are ridiculously expensive to go to. If you decide to take the job send me a PM and I will help out in any way I can.
