As for the ban, I think it's silly and if we're so set on saving energy I would rather the choice on where I use my energy. I'm not allowed to buy a 40w incandescent light bulb for a reading lamp but my neighbour is able to use a 3,500w AC unit? Hardly seems fair.

I just got an email from Energy Efficiency Alberta and they provided an updated link to what products will be available.

Looks like it is an Ecobee smart thermostat?

Disappointed that they are only 60watt equivalent ... should have 60 and 100... I find 60 watts useless.

Are they only replacing standard A type bulbs or also doing flood lights, GUs and tubes? I want to the tubes in my garage changed over to LED. I also need some GU bulbs installed in my bathroom.

I'd still like to know if they'll leave my shower head alone.

Even if they don't just keep the old one and put it back when they leave.

Yes - when I called they said when someone comes to your home you can pick and choose what you want them to do

I'd be interested in hearing back from someone who gets this done and if its at all actually worth it.

I already have a smart thermostat and efficient light bulbs and they'll have to pry my shower heads out of my cold, dead hands.

This will be a complete PR and Media nightmare for the NDP.

Oh....just you wait until the final costs come in.

That Ontario Company didnt undercut everyone just to lose money, the cost overruns are going to be fun.

Then you can add 'fiscal disaster' to your nightmare scenario.

I contacted them and you can refuse any work if you like.

What I'm curious about though is the thermostat. I have a programmable one, but it's the plain Jane one that all builders use. Is that eligible for replacement? I really want one that has Wifi capability.

I'd also like to know more about the thermostat, namely:

1. Is it wifi, remote operable?
2. Will they replace two thermostats? I have one in my garage that I would love to have replaced with wifi - would be great to set the temp to warmup from inside the house when I'm getting ready to go out and do some work in the winter time.

From a link above (#163)

Looks to be an Ecobee thermostat. $300 according to a google search.

Fantastic. I'll let them install it, and then I'll move it to my garage. It's such a pain to walk all the way to my garage just to heat it up.

I dont get it. I'm perfectly okay with purchasing things for my own house.

Is not the point of the Government giving out free stuff that they give it to people who cant afford it? I can afford a $300 thermostat so that someone who wouldnt be able to afford it as easily can still have one.

Does anyone know if they'll replace a programmable one if it's just one of those really simple ones?

Or does it have to be the actual manual one only that they will replace?

Sounds like only the manual ones. But Home Depot sells a $30 manual thermostat that you could install for them to replace if you really want the EcoBee
