Default Flames fall into the bottom 10 in Points Per Game

If you sort the standings by point percentage, there are 13 teams that have a greater than 1.1 PPG in the standings. 7 teams in the east and 6 in the west.

St. Louis misses out by 0.01 at 1.09.

In the west for that final spot you have

Vancouver - 1.06
LA - 1.04
Calgary - 1.04
Winnipeg - 0.98
Dallas - 0.98

Currently the Flames are 21st overall in the standings when sorted based off the games played. Buffalo, Detroit, New Jersey, and Florida are all at 1.02, with Tampa, Dallas, and Winnipeg all being at 0.98. Then you have Arizona and Colorado being the Buffalo and Toronto from last year. So far behind everyone else that they are irrelevant.

Looking ahead, this is what the Flames face over the next while until the trade deadline.

Toronto - 12th
Montreal - 5th
Ottawa - 10th
Minnesota - 3rd
New Jersey - T-22nd
Rangers - 7th
Pittsburgh - 4th
Arizona - 29th
Philadelphia - T-16th
Vancouver - T-16th
Nashville - 13th
Tampa Bay - T-26th
Florida - T-22nd
Carolina - 15th
LA - 20th

15 games, 7 against teams on the bottom half of the standings and 5 against the elites. With how the Flames are doing lately, things could go south quickly unless the team turns things around fast.

I think a guy like Nolan Patrick or Nico Hishier would go a long way for us. If playoffs are out of the discussion I would rather draft top 3 than in treadmill brent sutter territory.

Very true, if we are out of it, than it is a good option.

We're not finishing top 3, so you'd better start going for good lottery results

Good lottery results are no longer a pipe dream with the new odds set out by the NHL, they're actually quite attainable if you can get yourself in the bottom 6-ish.

I guess that depends on your definition of pipe dream. You only have a 13.5% chance if you're second. It's 7.5% if you're 6th. That's pretty poor odds

7.5% chance of #1, 20-30% chance of a top three finish if you're in 4th to 7th spot. That's actually not that bad.

So slumping teams fall in the standings, while hot teams rise in the standings? Am I understanding that right?

Team in the playoffs as they write posts looking at lottery players being a possibility.

I love the Internet.

This season will be the first season that a team can pick 15th (with their own pick) and still miss the playoffs.

It will be the Flames.

Yeah, as pissed off as I am at the team and feel like they're undeserving of that last playoff spot after this crap week, I'd at least like for us to be toppled from that spot first before any talk of the draft or lottery odds.

That's why there is no bad scenario on how the Flames finish the season.

Either they do well enough to make the playoffs or they get another high quality prospect to add to the pool.

Despite last season being tough to endure, getting Tkachuk has been amazing and the thought of getting another player that is of Bennett or Tkachuk's calibre would do a lot for the Flames to get a cup.

Nobody would be or should be cheering for losses. The team as it has been has not been good enough and they need to be better. They will either rally and be what they should be, or they will continue to faulter and fall in the standings. Either way, it'll be interesting to see where this team goes over the next month and a week.

We've had a top-6 pick in 3 of the last four years. #### tanking, it's time for the team to start showing some progress, which they are. If they finish 9th or 10th this year then so be it.
