I would suggest:
Gaudreau- Backlund-Frolik
Tkachuk- Monahan- Brouwer
Versteeg- Bennett-Chaisson
Ferland- Stajan- Bouma

That way Gaudreau will have a combination of skill and defensive responsibility on his line. Also, Maybe Tkachuk willl force Monahan to be emotionally involved on the ice.
I think that could work, but I would go:

Gaudreau-Backlund-Versteeg
Tkachuk-Monahan-Frolik
Ferland-Bennett-Hathaway/Brouwer/Chiasson
Bouma-Stajan-Hamilton

Gaudreau and Versteeg can be set free with a defensively responsible center who also can chip in some offense, Monahan actually gets some decent wingers that can cycle and get the puck to him for low slot shots, Ferland-Bennett-Hathaway hits everything and just tries to not get scored on too much, maybe they can at least bring some entertainment to this lost season, Bouma-Stajan-Hamilton is a respectable 4th line

Move Brodie back to the right side with any lefty on his left, trade Wideman for whatever as well.

Chiasson playing with Gaudreau is s joke but Yakupov wouldn't be?

We need to try Tkachuk on Gaudreau's right side

Iggy wouldn't work up there either, nostalgia be damned.

I agree, try Tkachuk. 5-on-5 offense is spinning its wheels....time for something different

I agree. I'd like to see Tkachuk with Monahan and Gaudreau and Bennett on the wing with Frolik and Backlund. It's painful to break up something that works, but Backlund and Frolik can teach Bennett how to play hockey again, and Tkachuk seems to know his purpose, I don't think it matters where he plays.

I don't think splitting apart the only line that is reliable right now to get a star player (who should be generating his own offense) going is the right philosophy.

Gaudreau has to work through this on his own.

Nothing stopped Monahan from producing when he started the game on the 4th line, he went out and did it anyway.

Time for the Flames to start rewarding players with icetime again.

But you're forgetting the return for Gio.... oh wait.

Maybe we could use the saved money to sign another Brouwer?

Would like to see this for a few games:

Gaudreau-Monahan-Tkachuk
Bennett-Backlund-Frolik
Versteeg-Stajan-Brouwer
Ferland/Bouma-Hamilton-Hathaway/Chiasson

Also would like to see Kulak get a few games in place of Kevin or Wideman.

Does anybody think Johnny would be effective on his off-wing? It's not like he's a big mucker along the boards -- if he can get the puck in space it might give him more opportunities to shoot instead of having to do the old button-hook curl because nobody is in a position to receive a pass.

Something like:

Versteeg - Monahan - Gaudreau
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Stajan - Brouwer
Bouma - Hamilton - Ferland

or, if you break up the 3M line, to try and get Bennett going as well:

Tkachuk - Monahan - Gaudreau
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg - Stajan - Brouwer
Bouma - Hamilton - Ferland

Monahan and Gaudreau have had a few chances the last two games when they have been put together briefly. Might be time to get them back together full time. I think I might be okay with breaking up the 3m line as well. Try to get Bennett going by moving him on that line possibly.

Defence I think is where changes defintely need to be made. Brodie and Wideman need to be split up. This trying Brodie on the left side just isn't working. Put him back on the right and either have Kulak with him or Jokipakka. I think I'd like to see Kulak in for a few games. Jokipakka hasn't progressed at all like I and many of us had hoped. Truthfully I don't now why Kulak hasn't already drawn in the lineup. Getting frustrated having these guys up and not letting them play. Did it with Wotherspoon last year and the beginning of this year and now doing it to Kulak. Let them play. Especially when guys like Wideman and Jokipakka simply haven't been good enough.

I'd like to see Elliott given the net for a bit here. Let's go with him good or bad and see if he can handle it.

Haven't read the whole thread so I don't know if someone has mentioned it but man, I would be pretty happy with Russell at 3m/yr right now as #4d
