Backlund a Selke candidate this year?
IMO he is up there this year, Bergeron and Toews (the usual suspects) are having down years. He won't beat Crosby for it though (I think it is his to lose at this point), Kesler is also another strong candidate this year.

Kesler will be tough for Backlund to beat out due to name recognition I think, which is bs.

Crosby is a long shot if you ask me.
IMO, the candidates will be Kesler, Koivu, and Backlund

I've heard media members discuss Backlund as a possible Selke candidate. Whether he wins or not is another question, but he should get consideration.

I can't see it. Backlund isn't a household name IMO.

If the voters were mainly west could be. The east will show him no love.

I'm sorry but Kesler is much more deserving of the Selke this season than Backlund, regardless of name recognition.

Selke voting is usually all over the place. Last year 50 players got votes. I could see Backlund getting a few votes and finishing top 20. Flames players aren't going to be considered for hardware until they win something. (as it should be)
FWIW, the last Flame to get a Selke vote was Iginla in 2012. One fifth place vote for 43rd.

Who votes for the selke? Backlund deserves consideration for sure. He's not a big enough name to win it though. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if Bergeron and toews get more votes just because of who they are even if they are having a down year.

As much as Backlund deserves consideration, I wouldn't be surprised if the Selke goes to one of the "usual suspects" OR a Teammate of a "usual suspect"...I was quite surprised to hear, during the Bruins'/'Hawks' game, that the Boston TV guys were proposing Anisimov, as a Selke candidate...also, on the 'Hawks, Hossa gets a lot of props for his relentless backchecking...I am NOT saying that those two would win the Selke, but, when opponent TV guys tout the possibility of those alternate candidates, especially TV guys from the opposite conference, then there IS a buzz for those particular players.

Agreed. I've seen a couple of articles having Brad Marchand as the favourite for the Selke. the Selke has always kind of been the usual suspects every year no matter what it seems. Tough for a guy like Backlund to break in.
