My favourite subtle dig to get a rise out of my braggy Oiler fan buddies lately (it's the same thing every October, they never learn) is to agree with them that Connor McDavid looks very good. So good in fact that he may almost be as good as Austin Matthews. Ohh does that piss them off LOL

They must have some brutal road trips on the horizon.
5 game East Coast road trip starting in early November (November 1st, McDavid vs Matthews in Toronto), the chickens will be coming home to roost soon enough.

The Oil have 10 straight games against playoff teams (last season) during November. Do not know the home/road splits of those, but if they are still anywhere around division lead after that, then I'll start to take them for reals

And as per the Oilers broadcast they do not play a single game in the United States during the month of October. Talk about a soft ball schedule so far.

I'm totally using this for when a group of Edmontonians stay with us this weekend. This is perfect.

Morale is high around town. It stinks a little less, less people are wearing sweatpants, and there's bits of confetti floating in the wind. This decent start is something the city needed, but one that the Oilers do not deserve.

Obviously I wish the Oilers failure, and I hate them, but they could be the second best team in the NHL... As long as the Flames are #1.

I don't care if they're good this year, I just want the Flames to be better. I bet they will be but the Oilers are playing well so far.

That said, frig Edmonton.

Both McDavid and Talbot seem like they are legit. Wherever the team ends up at the end of the year, those two pretty much assure that it is only a matter of time before they put it together, maybe as soon as this year.

That being said, Montreal went 18-4-3 in October and November last season and still missed the playoffs. I know Price's injury was a big part of that, but I wouldn't put it past the Oilers to pull something similar.

Gotta give the oilers credit. They have come out the gates extremely well. The one game they faltered and the coach hammered them by taking away an off day (rules be damned ).

Talbot was a good move for them. Decent contract now too.

Oilers suck and they will still miss the playoffs. Just like death and taxes that's something that you can count on.
