Here's the highlights from a game he dominated, hattrick and a beautiful move and pass for an almost assist:

Tod Button:
- Phillips: Connie wanted him in the worst way. Skill and brain, 5'7"-ish. Undeniable. Taking guys like this has worked, we'll keep going with it. Phillips is a Connie pick.

I know its Buttons list and they are related but pretty comforting on our picks:

5. Tkachuk
28. Dube
33. Phillips
37. Mattson
38. Fox
39. Parsons
89 Lindstrom

This pick interesting...we'll see how he does next year. You usually don't score 37 goals your rookie year by accident. Hope he has a great second year.

Great kid. Was around him a lot through mutual friends when he still lived in town full time. Watched him play with the Calgary Buffaloes a bunch. Really fun to watch. Stoked about this pick

My favourite royal by far. The whole year I referred to him as the Royals' Johnny hockey. Guy is unreal.

I love it that Burke goes on national TV and rambles on and on about the need for the Flames to get bigger, then a few months later we hear that Conroy's "guy" is one of the smallest players in the draft.

I don't care for Burke, but I don't mind him so much when guys like Treliving and Conroy are around with a more modern perspective on the game.

I hope Phillips makes it to the NHL. I happen to like watching fast, talented, smart hockey players. And it won't bother me one bit if he's only 5'7".

I don't understand how people don't get Burke.
He distracts, deflects, and just speaks out as he sees fit. It's awesome.
But that anyone takes what he says as speaking for the Calgary Flames, I find really amusing.

By the way this is the pick from David Jones to Minny trade. Jones was useless in his time in Calgary but hopefully the pick we got for him can turn out to be a steal.

You don't draft for current need and you always go for the BPA regardless. Burke saying the Flames need to get bigger has nothing to do with the draft decisions.

Jones' had his moments but was inconsistent.

His best stretch for us was undoubtedly the playoff series against Vancouver. He elevated his game and was possibly our best forward vs the entire series vs the Canucks.

Love to pick. I would love to know why a player like Phillips can be ranked so deep in the draft, while a player like Keller is top 10. I'm not saying Phillips is in the same tier, but the gap is massive for similar players. Why was Marnee drafted so high, and Mangipane so low ? Why was Gaudreau ranked so late ? Seems like their is no consistency on small skill players.
