Yes, my foodie GF thought it was very good. Me too. Consider sitting at the Bar - we had great service and a view of the very busy kitchen. The kitchen had a kind of "conductor". I remember the grilled calamari was very good.
They do creative cocktails.
Quite noisy in there though.

This wine was great IMO: Pinot Noir, Byron, Santa Barbara

Such a shame. I went there a few times for lunch always was very impressed and had great experiences. I hope the same ownership is able to open elsewhere.

Thought I'd throw in a positive review on a new-ish restaurant in Beltline/Lower Mount Royal. It's called "Universe" and has been open a while now, maybe a year? It's across from the McDonald's on 17th Ave near 14 St. SW. It's run by a Greek family from Montreal and serves a wide variety of food - a huge breakfast menu, plus a lunch/supper menu that runs from salads/sandwiches (they do their own smoked meat) to pasta/pizza/steaks/chicken. The portion sizes are enormous and prices are decent. Decor is pretty much non-existent, seems a bit sterile, but it's also a small place so too much decor would clutter it up too much. We've been twice now and apart from some slow service (I think they got slammed by tons of people all coming in at the same time), it's been quite good.

Carino tweeted out a couple of hours ago that they are closing their doors next week.
We ate there a few times and always had a fantastic meal, and in such a neat little location on Edmonton trail.

Wondering if they are focusing on their new mission location. Big fan of carino. Hope they don't close the mission one as well

My wife is going to have a melt down. I say that with all gravity. It was her favorite Ramen spot and was on first name basis with the staff.
Really sad as Carino (now JJ Ramen Bar) was fantastic. I do know it has been slow there for a while due to the economy. We hoped it would live on but man that sucks.

Had lunch at the White Rose vegetarian restaurant in Bowness.
I ordered the portabello mushroom entree from the "bigger plate" section of the menu. It was tasty and well-presented, but there was not enough food on my plate to satisfy a tiny sparrow. For $18, there should be enough food for an adult. The waiter was not surprised at my disappointment and brought me back the menu. No thanks, I don't want to add another $18 tidbit of food.

"$68 for two people and we needed more food after. It's only vegetables. Why $18 for mushrooms + egg + potato? "

Atleast Shiki Menya is not too far away for you and your wife. I've never eaten at Carino, so I can't compare, but I can't imagine it could've been even better than Shiki.

We have never tried there. The line ups scared us. Carino was fantatstic and always had room. The mainly Japanese clientele help legit it for us.
I am sure Shiki is good. We'll have to try it. Just a sad day. I told my wife and she is going tomorrow for one last bowl.

10 Foot Henry is absolutely deserved of a top new restaurant title. They are 4 for 4 for (4^4?) me so far for executing on a nice menu and being worth the value.
Carino in Mission is good, only did 1 tasting menu.
Shokunin in Mission may have select hours now. Also serving Ramen all evening (as they should have been from the start). I'm not having a full meal at 10pm anymore. I've wanted to go for dinner multiple times there to just turn around and go buy some soup next door.
Blaze Pizza haassss to be ready to open in Mission, it's been under construction for a long time and I saw servers training 2 days ago.

Reason: Shokunin not closed, just restrategizing

Shokunin in Mission just closed their doors. Must have lasted a year or so.
