News is getting slow... thought this was interesting, basically all professional sports teams are ranked on how much they spend vs how well they do. Hopefully the Flames improve on this over the next few years.

Oilers came 121st (hah).

Read the list. Oilers are last, this makes sense. But how are the Lakers 8th out of the NBA and NHL Teams? They are paying Kobe 24mil a year, he is 35 and injured.

They rank teams by a make believe index.

Each team is compared against the average price per win in its league to produce a score we call the efficiency index.

27th in a 30-team league with a hard salary floor. Difficult to get good value for money as a losing team when you are forced to spend about 75 percent as much as a cap team.

Not that it makes any difference. Genuine ‘smart spenders’ (and there are a few in sports, but not many) don't count success in wins, they count it in bums on seats and dollars on the bottom line. If (for instance) the Phoenix Coyotes won the Stanley Cup, but lost $50 million doing it because they were playing in front of three armadillos and a dead rattlesnake, that would not be a smart use of $50 million.
