But in all honesty, it's still way too early to tank.
I'm not condoning tanking, but Colorado is so incredibly bad that there's no chance. The likelihood of finish worse than Arizona is also pretty slim, and Vegas slots in as well as the third worst team. I don't want to see these guys give up, there's very little benefit to throwing the season anyways.

So if the Flames flop and finish behind the Jets and behind everyone out East, Vegas gets the 3rd OA and Flames would get the 4th OA?

That's a 9% chance at 1st OA, then a 9% chance at 2nd, and then a 9% at 3rd, and if all the teams behind the Flames win the lotteries, then at worst the Flames pick 7th OA.

Who's the projected top 7, I wonder?

Probably posted before but where does Vegas select in the draft? Assuming they're high in lottery?

Vegas will have the same lottery odds of the team that usually slots in the #3 spot in the reverse standings. So they can draft no lower than 6th in the first round and 34, 65 etc after that. I think that's how it works.

My post from Dec. 14th. Seems like this is becoming more true every day.

This guy might be someone for Flames fans to keep an eye on. 5-foot-7 Joseph Carreffa of the Kitchener Rangers:

Quote:
“I would say I compare myself to Johnny Gaudreau-type player,” Garreffa said. “He just goes out there, and he’s not a big guy…not the strongest guy in the world, but he knows how to use his size and his assets to his advantage in the NHL. He does well every year, and he’s out there and gets open and controls the puck and finds open guys.

“I feel like I’m a guy who likes to handle the puck that’s what one of my strong suits, handling the puck, skating it, trying to attack defenders one on one, trying to use my skill set to beat them and look for open teammates or just go to the net and bury one.”

I think Callan Foote is likely to be a top pair d. Maybe not as supremely dynamic as Liljegren, or Sergachev last year, but a blue chip D prospect IMHO who could be an NHLer by age 20

It would be nice if they Flames could get someone who has a near definite chance of becoming a top 4 d-man.

There's always risk, but there's extra potential too.

If we drafting around mid 1st give me nick Suzuki. RS, lots of skill, full of compete, and elite IQ. Kid fits our mold.

I watched him in the CHL top prospects game. He has size, good hands, and he skates well enough for a big guy. The issue with him for me is that he didn't seem to use his size all that effectively, and he was much too weak on the puck for guy that size. He also seemed to shy away from contact.

Just my opinion but he seems a lot like Joe Colborne.

Anyone know when tickets go on sale for the draft? Thinking about heading to Chicago and attend in person. I did search earlier and could not find anything.

Patrick has played 11 games and still it's a toss up as to who's the number 1 player in this draft.

Trade this 1st for an actual player please.

Interesting report from the former head scout at McKeen's on Liljegren:

https://recrutes.ca/5-nations-cup-u-...report-sweden/

Quote:
Timothy Liljegren – Scouts are still waiting to see the phenom that was heralded going into the draft year as a surefire top two prospect expected to give Nolan Patrick the best run for his money for the first pick overall.

It’s not like this latest disappointing performance was an aberration – Liljegren was subpar in the summer at the Ivan Hlinka, struggled upon his return from mono with Rogle in the SHL and ending up being demoted, and average at best in this 5 Nations Tournament. A 6-0 defenceman that is supposed to be special offensively should not be stuck on the second power-play unit and end the tournament without a goal, especially when he continues to have struggles defensively because he tries to do too much at times and lacks vision.

Concerns about his hockey sense abound in the scouting world, and there have been more than a few whispers about him following a similar path to Oliver Kylington, who like Liljegren was a 6-0, swift-skating offensive defenceman pegged as a top five prospect going into his draft year only to drop to 60th overall by draft day due to sense issues. Liljegren isn’t reaching Kylington levels in his draft season brain cramping..but it is becoming more and more of a concern.

“I’d be nervous taking him in the top five,” noted one scout who was stating the obvious. They (hockey pundits) don’t put him under the microscope.”

It’s difficult seeing a team looking at Liljegren in the top ten…and if he’s not any better in the U-18’s he may not go in the top 20 either by draft day.

Interesting they use Kylington as a comparable but Chychrun also got the same label and dropped to 16th but Phoenix now has a fine young regular defenceman who made the NHL at first try. I'm not saying where he should be drafted just that it's crap shoot.

Yeah, I said Kylington because we got him but all three were labeled with "sense issues".
