It's Sportsnet, it means less than nothing.

I think everybody is just reporting the same one rumour right now.

Really? I would like to see Backlund have a successful tournament but I'll still cheer for Canada over anyone.

Mikael Backlund of the Calgary Flames, has been identified as Henrik Sedins replacement in the Swedish squad, but he denies the data and writes on Twitter that he has not been contacted by the Swedish team managers.

Backlund has previously told hockeysverige.se that his plan was to invite over some friends from Västerås to Canada during the Olympic break. Now he is forced to cancel those plans.

Wes Gilbertson @SUNGilbertson
To his knowledge, #Flames C Mikael Backlund is not on Sweden's reserve list: "I don't know the rules. I guess we'll see tomorrow."

I think that's great for him and will be great for his confidence. I'm so happy his potential is starting to show.

Darn, now he has to cancel his binge drinking plans for the break. Sucks for him

One more from #Flames C Mikael Backlund: "Personally, if I don't get picked tomorrow, it doesn't matter. Well, I mean, I want to go."

Really? The world junior thing I get. But the Olympics, you'd cheer for a different country because of one Flames player?

Not that I'm slagging your choice, as at the end of the day it's just sports and we can all cheer however we want.

I could never see myself seeing our country step out on the ice on international hockey's biggest stage and go "meh, Backlunds on Sweden, screw Canada".

You can cheer for more then one country... If he makes it I know I'll be cheering for Sweden in any game that doesn't involve Canada. Let's just say I'm cheering for Sweden to win Silver.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I'd be cheering for Sweden to win Silver, until Canada wasn't able to win gold, then I'd be cheering for them to win gold.

Reached out to Hockey Canada regarding whether the "reserve list" matters pre-games or not. Will update when I get told what's what.

For what it's worth, Backlund played for Par Marts on six or seven different occasions for different national teams and tournaments. Marts knows Backlund pretty damn well.

Maybe if a player on your reserve list gets named to your team you can add another player to the reserve list?

Nyquist made the team and Backlund took his place on the reserve list?

It's a conspiracy. The Swedes won't announce anything until Backlund carries their flag in for the opening ceremonies.
