Interactive (currently 27%) 3D Downtown Vacancy Map
There's been a few threads talking about vacancies, recession, O&G layoffs, businesses, etc. in the past.
I thought this was really cool, you can see all the available vacancies in downtown and also compare it with the past:

When I went downtown to do the pool yesterday at the Palace, I was shocked. I mean I don't go down town for meetings or anything anymore. But it was so different then it was when i worked downtown.
At 5:00 there wasn't a rush of humanity heading for the trains of the bars, the mall itself was dead. When I went to park at the Bay Parkade at about 15 to 4, I could have gotten parking on the first level.
The mall itself looked grubby and dirty, and there were lots of seedy looking characters hanging around.
I had a lady try to sell me her wedding ring for a ticket to Czechoslovakia. When I left the palace at about 9:30, the streets were dead except for the people just hanging around. Saw one good fist fight between a dude and a girl. but it was so grim

The B and C class west end stuff is suffering the most, unsurprisingly.
The A class stuff isn't as bad.

Did she think you were a wizard who could transport her to the past?

Easy mistake to make when you consider the bolded words and immediately think of the punch-up in Piestany.

Funny thing, when I talked to the guys at the draft table, they said the same thing.

I'd be curious to know what these vacancy numbers translate into in terms of actual downtown population during the day because like the Captain says, it's eerily quiet at lunch and rush hours.

My work is moving out of downtown next week. The biggest laugh I had at that meeting was "we really tried to keep everyone downtown." LOL, no you didn't.

I was at Repsol the other day and while they had the whole floor I was on, in the Talisman hey days, they would have had more than twice as many people in there. Same goes for most places I visit, same goes for my small office.
We have half the people density in the same space as we would have had 5 years ago, not to mention we used to have evening and night shifts that don't exist any more.

So is there any hope for things getting better? With the gong show that the Kinder Morgan pipeline is the future of downtown Calgary is looking pretty bleak

Interesting, I don't see any of the floors my old company leases - four out of six were up for sublease last year. If all of the floors are now subleased, I bet they were negotiated at a bargain basement price.

It certainly isn't 100% accurate, but probably shows the big picture well.

Wow, cool map.
Are there not a couple of buildings currently under construction?

Yes, including Telus Sky that's adding another 760,000 sq ft.

Telus Sky is the most notable, its a mixed use building, residential and commercial.
If you add residential only towers, there are 16 towers under construction in the downtown area, being south of the river but north of 17th ave, 9 of those being north of 9th avenue.

I thought there are a couple of buildings being built along 10th and 1st se. I don’t see these on the map. Maybe they are residential?
So,that one that is on hold by gulf Canada, does on hold means it sits as a bit of an eyesore for a while?
