In the highlight vid that sureloss posted. At 1:20, he slashes a guy, shoves him, boards him (sorta) then face plants into the board and injures himself.
Thanks calgaryboy for confirming. After watching more video, I have no idea why anyone wants him.

I would imagine that a lot of the times that Calgary is associated with a player is because Treliving is calling to keep tabs on things to see where the market is. Who knows, could be helping the agent drive up the cost with a faux bidding war. Especially if a rival is involved.

Well, yes. But the thing is, youtube videos give an idea why teams were scouting in the first place. After watching the videos, his speed, shot, physicality, positioning etc. to me, none stand out in any video.
Free is free though if we do sign him.

Low risk whatever. You give him a look and see where he goes.
Nakladal was a pleasant surprise, but for every Nakladal you have a Cervenka.

Cervenka should be a censored word on this board.

They both played more than just a few games for the Flames.
(whispers) I actually thought Cervenka was pretty good

Yeah but there's also the clip where he skates through a few defenders and rips it past the goalie. This is also a big man who's just figuring out the offensive end of the game.
If it was a forward, id agree the Flames scouts can't be trusted to project talent, but they don't do too bad on defense. Besides this is a guy who's competing for the 3rd pair, which is at most 12 minutes a game. But since he's a European, that's also a negative. The Flames aren't good at scouting overseas.
And any European signings brings us closer to scouts being fired. You can't keep spending salary on players who don't contribute. Max ELC are close to a million buxks. So if your European scouts are costing you a million a year, it's cheaper to find a better scout who's 125K more expensive in salary but brings you value for your ELCs

I agree with this sentiment. I just couldn't figure out what I was missing when I was looking at the videos. However, when Calgaryboy said he wasn't a guy we should chase, things made a little more sense.

Agree. I'm sure he's seen Rutta just as much as some of the scouts out there. Though I wouldn't be upset either if management signed him.

This would probably be Jakub Nakladal 2.0.
Just a veteran guy that you stick in the AHL for a while and see if there's anything there there. Wouldn't hurt, but one's expectations for him should be limited to that.
If he becomes any more than a #7 defenseman, it's a homerun.

The player only makes that kind of money if he's playing in the NHL. He makes considerably less in the AHL.
If a player on an ELC cracks your NHL lineup, he's almost certainly saving the team money because any player who isn't on an entry-level deal will be making considerably more.

Both played about half a season, Cervenka a little more so I don't see the difference, other than Feaster's hype I guess. Both amounted to zilch for the Flames.
I don't really get this low risk logic. The risk is you're signing a bad player and therefore icing a bad team. I understand the lack of a long term contract etc. but you only have time and resources to sign so many players so they better be good ones for the most part.

I have never seen him play, but it seems suspicious that he never made KHL. Cervenka and Nakladal both played in the KHL.
