The term "gastro-pub" needs to be shot in the face, or at least the people that use it, (not you per se Peter12)

That and I find they are always cooked so well done that they are dessicated to the point of being chewy / spongy. It's probably a consequence of being done on a flat top grill. Maybe it's because I don't get cheese with my A&W burgers.
McD's has a similar consistency. I call it washing machine lint.

I find that A&W burgers used to be like that, but the new patties (the gimmicky hormone free nonsense) are actually really juicy. My only issue with A&W is that you're basically paying a premium for a fast food burger now.

My burger from the A & W in Stettler disputes your post completely.
I do agree that their food is expensive.

Is A&W really any more expensive than the others?
~$10 for a combo, that's pretty much the norm at food court restaurants.

Honestly, the whole attempt to rig the restaurant out in vintage colours is a selling point for me.
The food was great. Beats McDonald's.

That is a high bar to beat.
I try not to eat fast food, but have a weakness for Wendy's.
Also, kids' hockey season doesn't help.

I like the Wendy's spicy chicken burger, but when it comes to fast food burgers I'm with Peter, mozza burger is where it's at.

The key to A&W is the root beer milkshakes. Usually only available in the stand alone restaurant locations.

Good God that A&W is still there? It was terrible 25 years ago. It was shut down multiple times over the years for food infractions. #### I'm old.
Am I allowed to eat in Mac Hall? I feel like a pervert even glancing at the girls there.

The A&W mozza burger is the only fast food chain burger I'll eat. Throw in a bag of onion rings and Bob's your uncle.

In regards to actual local places, there is a new deli and cafe in Haysboro ( Cured Delicatessen - totally renovated from the old place) that cures their own meat and looks really good. Coffee, sandwiches, charcuterie? Sign me up. Also, it's really close to my house . . . so ya.

It does make sense in the context of a pub in London. There, pubs don't traditionally serve food. Then many started serving muscles and other shellfish, as that's a cheap food that's readily available.
In Canada where ever bar serves a full menu, it's pretty pretentious.

Yeah their burgers and onion rings are on the salty side but I actually like that as I'm a person that doesn't put salt on my food so it's a nice change seeing I only eat there on occasion.

Just ask for no seasoning on your burger if it's too salty. Bonus: When you ask for it without seasoning (and fries unsalted), they have to make them fresh. My Mickey D's days were valuable for something.

I'm still a sucker for the Big Mac. That would be at the top of my list for the ~$5 fast food burger. The A&W Teen Burger, the Whopper, and the Big Mary chicken burger would also rank pretty high. But if cost is not a factor, I'd eat at Five Guys.

That A&W was great. It was the only place on campus you could get a Coca-Cola.
The other year I took my wife to Canada and she got to sample a variety of North American fast food. She disliked A&W but loved Wendys.
