They are in salary cap jail and have to move bodies out before they can add. Factoring in Savard going on LTIR, the have approx 3.2m to sign Reilly Smith and Torey Krug.

More like 4M, once Krug signs they'll be at 8 defensemen... drop Kevan Miller on waivers and you add 800K breathing room. The Iginla bonus carry-over is biting them in the arse thou.

The CBA says the Hawks have his rights up to and including August 15th. Therefore the earliest he can sign is August 16th.

Krug's camp has leaked info about the KHL. Not sure he'd actually go... but as Flames fans we do know it could happen (Gio)

Mark Divver @MarkDivver
I'm hearing that Avalanche, Rangers, Bruins and Coyotes are in the mix for impending free agent Kevin Hayes of BC.
first time the Coyotes are mentioned

Ditto, I know Boston really likes him though but he played great for them this past year.

Unlikely that Miller goes on waivers. He's likely the number seven guy. Bartkowski is the likely guy out as he makes more than Miller and is UFa after this season. Feaster probably would have picked him up with the weisbrod connection but not sure if new regime would want him. Given that he's available at this point in off season, probably not.

Calgary Herald just ran a piece on the potential he could sign with Calgary. Treliving was being tight lipped, so just more speculation and consideration of possibility.

of course Treliving can't say anything, it would be tampering to discuss publicly adding a player whose rights are owned by another team

Article says his off season to do list is almost complete. Given that he said he wanted to tweak the d, believe the reporter is incorrect to make that statement as the d remains intact and he still has work to do.

So you're saying being almost done and not being done are different?

What are the tampering rules under the new CBA? There's a window now before July 1 FA, perhaps there is a window for this kind of FA as well? Genuinely asking, most tampering stuff I find in Google is about the Leafs and Sedins 5 years ago.

the CBA specifically states the Blackhawks have exclusive rights with Hayes until the end of August 15th:
Quote:
If a Player drafted at age 18 or 19 is a bona fide college student at the time
of his selection in the Entry Draft, or becomes a bona fide college student
prior to the first June 1 following his selection in the Entry Draft, and
remains a bona fide college student through the graduation of his college
class, his drafting Club shall retain the exclusive right of negotiation for
his services through and including the August 15 following the graduation
of his college class. The Club need not make a Bona Fide Offer to such
Player to retain such rights.
|
there is no window for this type of UFA

Blackhawks own his rights until Aug 15 11:59 PM (Eastern, im assuming) so I doubt there is any type of window.

You also need to manage your expectations. The to do list could include things that are more under his control - like extensions and RFA signings. He may well want to try and tweak the D, but that could mean anything from a waiver wire deal during camp cuts or an effort to make a deal where he can't find a willing trade partner.
