No. Why would we do that? And we don't have the cap room.

I'll take the top rated 18 year old on the planet and put him at RW over either of those guys.

Hell no. You get a high end talent on an entry level deal who will be at least as good as either of those two.

Yup, only if the Sens or Kings have the 2nd overall pick to give back to us.

If we get Nolan Patrick we keep him in the hope he becomes an elite 1C. There is no guarantee we have that on our roster at present.

No chance.

I would love to pry Mark Stone out of Ottawa but not for 1st or 2nd overall.

Central scouting has released a revised players to watch list:

https://nhl.bamcontent.com/images/as...-file/file.pdf

A ranking means 1st round pick candidate.
B ranking means 2nd/3rd round pick candidate
C ranking means 4th/5th/6th round pick candidate

Another good year for Finnish prospects. Although it's early to say, we might have five first rounders, possibly even more. Some top-end talent there as well (Vesalainen, Tolvanen, potentially even Vaakanainen who has a B ranking in that list). They have 11 Finns with at least a B ranking by my count. Hopefully the Flames draft some of those guys.

Adding some of them to the future core of Barkov, Ristolainen, Laine & Puljujärvi makes the future looks decent for Team Finland.

McKeens top 30 rankings

They surprise by having Hischier at 1

I think Klim Kostin might be a wild card for the 1st round given the Russian/KHL factor

So a scenario to ponder.

If the Flames win the draft lottery and assuming Nolan Patrick is still the prospective #1 Overall pick. Assume he's on a similar prospect level as say Nathan MacKinnon or Rick Nash (no where near a McDavid, Matthews, Crosby, Tavares level), but certainly #1 centre or even borderline franchise centre potential.

A couple other assumptions: Monahan recovers to a decent season of 50 pts (25g, 25a) and Bennett also has a decent finish of 20g, 25a). Jankowski finishes slightly above ppg in the AHL. Backlund continues to play awesome.

Do you:

a) Keep Patrick pick and trade Monahan (say for a scoring RW or top 4 D + pick)
b) Keep Patrick pick and trade Bennett (ditto above)
c) Keep Patrick pick, Keep Bennett (move to wing), and Keep Monahan
d) Keep Patrick pick, trade Jankowski
e) Keep Patrick pick, trade Monahan and Bennett for wingers (run - Backlund, Patrick, Jankowski down middle)
f) Trade pick for a lower pick (6-10 say) and a top prospect or player?
g) Trade pick and player (e.g. Brouwer) for package of top players
h) other

You always keep the pick in that situation, especially as Patrick fills a hole on this team.

I don't think he has the pedigree of MacKinnon (or close to it) heading into the draft though. Before MacKinnon erroneously decided to bulk up, he was looking like one hell of a player.

Sure, but what do you then do with Centre - Monahan, Patrick, Backlund, Jankowski (assuming he's ready) down the middle with Bennett at wing? Seems to be a bit of a glut. Trade one if a great deal is there?

Good depth. Also a good idea to perhaps start him on the wing and maybe have him replace Backlund if he's priced off the team at some point.

I trade Monahan while his value is high. He makes too much money for what he brings

Some news to get everyone caught up on a few of the big guys.

Nolan Patrick injury update from Friday:

Quote:
“He’s working at it every day,” Wheat Kings coach David Anning said. “He’s trying to get back into the lineup. As it stands right now it remains an unknown. Unfortunately I don’t have more information other than it remains day-to-day.”
http://futureconsiderations.ca/injur...earing-return/

Gabe Vilardi out indefinitely after appendectomy:

Quote:
“Most importantly here, we’re glad we caught this and that he’s getting the medical treatment he needs,” Spitfires general manager Warren Rychel told the team’s website. “We’re obviously going to miss a top talent like Gabe. You can’t control things like this and we’ll have to pull together as a group to pick up the slack, especially with a dozen consecutive road games in the next month or so.”

He's likely coming to the Western Conference but it could be any of Vancouver, Calgary or Phoenix. I'll be happy if the Flames get him but IMO he's kind of like a RNH first overall pick. Good player but not elite or game changer.

There's literally no way to know where he's going. He could just as easily be going to the Isles, Jets, Red Wings or Hurricanes as any of those teams. The percentages are so spread out now that the best you can say is that the Flames, Canucks and Phoenix will probably all pick in the top 7 if things continue as they have been (though I really think the Flames will pull out of this and at least get back to respectability).
