We won't know what we've got in Wolf, or just how good Wallstedt or Askarov are until they've played in the bigs for a good while. If you look at the list of previous winners of the Baz Bastien Memorial Award (AHL Goalie of the Year), there is a heck of a lot of mediocrity when it comes to NHL projection- although Wolfie is the only one to win it back-to-back (LaBarbera won it twice). I still love Wolfie, though.

As mentioned goalies are voodoo and hopes need to me moderated, but.....
im not so much interested in the list of goalies to win a single AHL GOY. Show me a list of Goalies to win
1xCHL GOY
2xAHL GOY (rookie and sophomore)
1x AHL MVP
in the span of 3 seasons. thats not including his 2x WHL GOY.
Expectations moderated, but its more than just the same bucket as all the mediocrity thats won an AHL GOY.

You're absolutely right, Wolf is not your everyday run-of-the-mill prospect. There are many reasons to be excited about him.

With Labarbera coaching Wolf, that’ll be 4 times!
There is no precedent. We are charting new territory!

Indeed goalies can be voodoo, but I would like to propose a challenge to any naysayers.
1) show me a goalie with Wolfs numbers over a 5 year period from start of junior to pro.
WHL -127gp - 88-31-4 - 1.81GGA - 0.935Pct
AHL - 105gp - 77-20-6 - 2.19GGA - 0.929Pct
2) now IF you can find one, show me a goalie that isn't/wasn't a quality NHL starter.
Simply put, the guy has never not been great.

I think you're caught up in draft pedigree, Wallstedt and Askarov don't even come close in the numbers, if Wolf was 6'2 he would have been a first rounder

Agreed. Wolf is beyond reasonable expectations.

But he’s not
I already explained it’s not about draft pedigree. It’s about physical traits

Their internal rankings doesn't change where the actual pick is. The lower the actual pick the more potential options you have. How do we know a player they had in their top 10 doesn't slide to 45?

One can still be very excited about Wolf and still acknowledge there might be one or two better prospects. Doesn’t mean one is down on Wolf

The problem with you and a few others is you complain constantly about the "complaining." I actually put real thought into my post to justify my opinion and instead of discussing the actual content of the post you whine about it being negative. You could address the actual opinion or just keep scrolling.
And like I've said before, when you completely disagree with the direction of the team it's tough to be excited about moves they make. I've not once said anything negative about Sharangovich because it's a pretty average move. I'll wait and see. Hopefully he surprises. I've never said anything negative about the prospects because I hope they all turn into players but they're all big question marks at this point. I haven't said much about Conroy because it's a meh hire to me. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and wait and see what he does. Same goes for the new coach. Havent said anything negative about the hire but again its wait and see on a guy who is an unknown. So its not like there has been a whole lot to be super excited about.

But if we for example had the 45th overall pick, we likely draft someone that they had ranked in the 1st. Which you would hope has a greater probability of turning into a player. So ya, I don't think the ranking of the player changes the value of the trade. Sorry that upset you.

No I get it!
100% logical.
A poster was happy that they appear to have drafted upward with a pick making a trade better than first conceived has to be stomped on and thwarted at every turn.
It's tough slogging, but you seem up for it.
We can't have anyone in the fan base with joy or hope.

The thread is also about the 80th pick, so it isn’t off topic.

The 80th pick is the 80th pick, it doesn’t matter how the Flames ranked the guy. If the Flames reached for some one, does it make the pick less?
Anyway, Toffoli doesn’t have much value and the trade reflected that. That doesn’t mean the return may not turn out to be good.

Let's do a few more...
If the flames had traded Toffoli for a late first, we would have the same 3 prospects but no Sharongovitch.
A player ranked 11th in a redraft from 5 years prior is worth more than any 1st rounder outside the top 10 in the current draft.
You can only win in the market place you're in. So when nearly 0 picks in this draft were traded and players such as Rielly Smith, Taylor Hall, etc were given away for free, it should have been apparent the flames won in the market place that they were in.
