The submission part of the game isn't boring, it's the lay and pray, hold your opponent down or against the cage and do nothing that generally gets boo'd. Two combatants can be boo'ed standing up just circling each other. Your average MMA fan is fairly fickle though, they're quick with the boos.

As for why Mark Hunt was a favourite. Well, he's made a career out of knocking out monsters.

Us fat guys have incredible knockout power because of fat momentum.

And that's the whole issue. I prefer to watch the striking and as a result two standing fighters, but its also exciting to watch good grappling and guys actively doing things on the ground to try to submit their opponents. What I don't want to watch is someone who is a great wrestler take his opponent down and do nothing. Or pin him against the cage and just hold him there. Those two are why I don't want to watch Cormier fight.

Yeah, submissions are just as exciting as KO's in my mind. And watching two fighters battle it out in a submission war is just as fun as watching two guys in a stand up/striking war.

LnP is atrocious and usually ends up in the fighters being stood up by the referee.

I appreciate a good take down too, especially when it results in some vicious and effective ground and pound.

To Cormier's credit, IMO he was trying to inflict damage on the ground, but Silva is just too good at defending off his back. Unfortunately that usually just results in the fight not getting stood back up by the official because despite nothing of consequence really happening it's hard for the official to justify taking the top position away from the wrestler when he's clearly making an effort just not succeeding.

Hopefully the Fertittas and White are the biggest losers. They've always come across as complete dirtballs.
Well they just sold a large portion of the UFC for 4 billion bucks, the same amount Disney paid for Star Wars. If you were hoping the Fertittas had less money after this weekend.. well... sorry.

Ridiculous. I recorded this and of course TSN can't play the fights on time. They don't need 5 channels and the CRTC should revoke all their licenses if they can't manage to play more than one event at a time.

TSN is a hot mess, 5 channels of mostly crap and whenever they do have something good they manage to mess it up.
