Default Monahan, so hot right now!

Playing 18 mins a night, 2G 2A in 4 games. 63% on faceoffs.

Man, am I ever happy for this guy. Really hope he keeps rolling!

Good for him, hope he keeps it up. Will always love that guy. Sadly he'll probably be shut down for the season in a few weeks

He’s a good player - when healthy. Unfortunately he’s seldom healthy.

I agree. He’d probably still be here if could stay healthy.

All time blunder by Treliving paying a 1st to dump him to give Kadri 7x7.

I don't fault treliving as I believe Monahan wanted out after Johnny and Tkachuk left. He was pretty candid about having a fresh start and welcomed it.

If any player deserves to have a resurgence, it’s him. Happy he’s doing well

The guy literally cried talking about how much this team meant to him when he came back. I don’t think a single person reported Monahan wanted out. I don’t buy it.

It was a dumb move by Treliving. Simple as that.

To be fair to the Flames, Monahan completely looked like damaged goods at the end of his Flames tenure, his injuries really impacted his game. He was a really good player early in his career. Would be amazing to see him recover and be a productive player again. Hope he stays healthy and does well.

A prime example of this organization being impatient, which is just how they operate.

Flames fans deserve better, and they aren’t getting it.

No, I won’t excuse impatience. Monahan had one year left and we sacrificed a first round pick to move him. For a team with a poor prospect system, that’s unforgivable. Going out and signing an older, more expensive player coming off a once in a lifetime playoff run is the s%^*-cherry on top.

A lot of posters on this board hated Monahan. Too soft, not a good centre, didn’t drive play, just a product of Gaudreau. Yet in his draft class he did just fine and he was a warrior

Hopefully, they've learned and will be more patient with Huberdeau and Kadri.

A lot of the criticism thrown at Monahan was during the last few years, where he was ravaged by injury but playing anyways (more impatience from the organization?...or medical staff just not doing their job well)

They definitely shouldn't be attaching picks to send either of those guys out. In fact, this organization should never trade another draft pick again. Ever.

I hated Monahan the hockey player (how can someone with perfect offensive IQ not know where to be in his own D zone) but it was still an irresponsible, short sighted move to turn him into Kadri, who’s basically the same tier of bad centerman but older and more expensive.

Happy for Monahan the human though, he’s always been a good dude.

Fair enough. I'm not saying the transaction was the appropriate strategy. I'm just saying moving on from Monahan wasn't necessarily the wrong call.

My stance would be that at the expense of a 1st round pick, it absolutely was (the wrong call). Especially with it being linked so closely to the Kadri signing, which as far as I can tell, is on par or worse than the Troy Brouwer signing. Short sighted, and paying someone for a career season later in their career.
