ya ok flameswin. I've already said on page 1 I have no problem calling bad cops pigs, and I use the term quite liberally with refs, Canuck fans, I don't care. Not a huge development and frankly I don't care.
This story is unfortunately not surprising to me at all and I support everyone continuing to videotape suspect things done by anyone, police officers or otherwise.
I hope this guy gets his phone back and decides to sue the officer/department/city for harassment, as has been mentioned earlier in this thread.

The police need to realize they're here to enforce the laws on the books and only those laws. Putting their emotions in check and not acting like a tool. However, they have a crappy job and have to deal with a bunch of crap from dumb people that hate them just because they're cops.
I have the utmost respect for police officers, I often thought about becoming one just to try to make a difference in the world. See kids egging a house and teepeeing the tree? laugh it off and take them home to their parents and let them deal with them.
However, I think it's good that the public can record them. Because if it is your word vs a cops word in court the judge will believe the cop all the time. This way the police are being policed and they know they're not above the law and cant create the law.
They want to do what all of us want to do after a day/night of work. Go home to their families alive and in one piece. Some cops are bad but the good ones outnumber the crap ones tenfold.

Most of the guys that I knew who became cops were bullies back in high school. Luckily for them, they picked one of the few professions that doesn't require them to grow out of it.
Is the video still on the phone? If the cop erased it, shouldn't he be charged with obstruction of justice or evidence tampering or some sort of charge for destroying another's digital property?

Probably, but he's a cop. He either won't get punished at all or will get a slap on the wrist compared to what a normal citizen would get for a similar offense.
Wish this board was like another I'm on who bans/suspends people for even using that term.
I sure hope that is not what happens on this board. Pretty stupid policy. NHB did enough other stuff that it is tough to judge if that is what he got booted off for though.
As for this case as someone who can't stand the BS of the police and realizes that 99.9% of cops are dicks on power trips this doesn't seem all that horrible of a thing for them to do.
Crappy phone videos presented as "evidence" of brutatlity or wrong doing are getting out of hand and more often than not show nothing of value and do nothing but stir up whining from the same groups that would whine if there was a shot of the sidewalk with some hipster saying the cops were beating a guy.

And then he'll be lauded as a hero by a large portion of the population.
