If there's one thing the demographic of private clubs appreciates, it's accessibility to public transit.

I agree they'll news some sort of plan for parking to make it work.

The EC Y was bleeding money for years even before.

The demographic there aged out. Members were literally dying. Also it became known as a gay meeting place.

Like the ones they gave you in Jr. High where you could list your homework and appointments?

Sorry, too busy turning established business into gay meeting places as a means of slowly shutting them down to know what you mean.

Very nice. That's a true KMPB project right there, you can spot them a mile away. It's significantly tailored down than the original Bing Thom concept, that's for sure.

Yeah, the original Bing Thom was spectacular, but always looked like something that was way beyond budget realities.

This looks pretty solid to me. I hope the wood doesn't turn grey though.

Agreed, the treatment of the wood will be key. I'm absolutely stoked by the choice of wood though; it's rapidly growing in popularity as a building material of choice for many reasons right now. We are using it in all our new builds, interior and exterior. BC uses a tremendous ton of it in their designs (it's part of their building code), and it's gaining major popularity here in Alberta as a structural preference. Huge fan over here.

That looks great... I don't have many nice things to say about the current Olympic Plaza.

Despite them showing it in the video, apparently the design work of the Olympic Plaza and the renovation of the existing building is still underway. What you see in that video is more or less a placeholder.

But either way, Olympic Plaza definitely needs a redo.

They should at least place a few of those denizens in these renderings.

The new Plaza designs will likely be coming soon. Design work only started in September 2023.

Heard the new arena is already being Value Engineered (or as they said de-Value Engineered).

As long as the building has a longer escalator than the one in Shelbyville.
