The 2nd part is definitely true about being caught out of position, but if you're smart about it you can still hit guys in the open ice. In fact it should be easier now since everyone backs far off , just no one really does it any more (the Sarich hit on Marleau in the playoffs ages ago and then guys like Kronwall and Gudas still do it now).

I'd like to see someone step up on a guy like McDavid every once in a while before he gets started. No matter how far you back off, he's still going to be faster than you so the odd shot before he gets moving should be an option.

And even if he isn't we didn't waste a second rounder on this guy.

Sieloff wasn't a wasted draft pick. He was well scouted and ranked, made the US WJC team right after the draft, was a monster when he joined the OHL but then ran into a lot of injury trouble and bad luck.

Not the thread for the debate, but he put up next to no points in junior. A very good sign you don't have the puck skills to cut it in the pro game. Sure we'll never know what would have happened without the injuries but a second round pick should have more than 11 points just by default.

A crystal ball that sees 4 years into the future would make the draft pretty easy.

I don't look up points when assessing a draft pick.

He made the US world junior team and played every game, that's top six for one of the big 6 countries.

He was heading for 4-6 role in the pros before getting sidetracked.

Another D prospect to throw on the pile of D prospects I guess.

I wonder if BT plans on cutting loose some of our upcoming RFA D prospects?

Namely:

Wotherspoon - 24 now, 6 years removed from draft, multiple call ups over multiple seasons and just can't stick
Culkin - 23 now, 5 years removed from draft, just can't stay healthy
Morrison - 25 now, hasn't even really come close to getting a call up during his 2 year ELC

Morrison is done for sure. Wouldn't be surprised if the other two are gone as well.

I'd keep.Culkin around a bit longer. Other than that, the d depth listed has been meh.

With the pending sale of Adirondack, there's probably less room than before. Wouldn't be surprised if all 3 of Morrison, Culkin and Wotherspoon didn't return.

Doubtful the Flames will go without an ECHL affiliate of some kind regardless of ownership.

Yeah. I wonder if their plan is to have an ECHL team located further west next season.

Spoiler!

There is plenty shuffling of players between Stockton and Adirondack during the season, and that is quite the distance.

I think Wotherspoon is done with the Flames. Based on some of those tweets he sent or liked about recalls it'll be a mutual thing.

Is it wrong to hope that Healey gets McDavid lined up in his crosshairs at some point?

I hope the contract doesn't kick in until next year. Does anyone know how many contracts the Flames have for next year?

Do contracts in the CHL count as well?
