He's been downright awful. He's paired this year with another inexperienced d-man who is not there to make up for his mistakes. His hockey IQ remains in the basement.

Toronto needs to pair him with a solid top pairing vet, or he will continue to sink the team with his ego and general boneheadedness.

His plus minus is one thing, but he doesn't seem be able to turn anymore haha. When I watched the game the other day, I'm pretty sure he's forgotten how to perform a crossover.

Despite not getting anything of note for him, I'm glad he's gone. I already like Wideman better.

Is the title of the thread going to change after every game?

He's always been like that. Once he gets going towards the net, he's incapable of making a quick turn the other way. Makes his missed pinches and hits all that much more painful.

I'll echo the comment that I'm glad he's gone, but wish Sutter had gotten a player like Duchene or Stewart in return instead of a bunch of lesser "Depth".

I agree that the return should have been better for Phaneuf, but Duchene? HA! Not a chance.

Hasn't been the same since that hip injury.

Lost all explosiveness on the ice and that was his biggest attribute.

His cross overs have always been strange. Does that little hop-step.

Should have had that coached out of him at the junior level...or earlier.

You're right.

When you can honestly say that we would have been better off giving him to TO for free, you know a baaaaad trade was made.

As an aside, what a horrible decision by Carlyle to play Phaneuf and Kostka over 30 minutes in a regulation game when they are struggling.

We can all thank Kevin Lowe for that stupid contract! hahaha. Well he really screwed us over big time there.

Phaneuf isn't even worth $3.5mil/season. What a terrible dman.

So, wait, are people saying trading Phaneuf for nothing, actually is a good thing?
