The ECHL Kelly Cup Finals Thread

Well gang, the ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames battle onwards in the playoffs! This year, the Las Vegas Wranglers have worked their way into the Kelly Cup Finals as National Conference Champions and seek to oust the Cincinnati Cyclones for the league title.

After two games in Ohio, the series is tied at one game apiece. Cincinnati won Game 1 by a 4-2 margin thanks to a pair of goals from ECHL scoring kingpin David Desharnais. However, Wranglers G Kevin Lalande bounced back from a subpar Game 1 effort with a stellar 27-save performance for his second shutout of the playoffs as Las Vegas evened the series up with a 1-0 win.

The series continues with three games in Las Vegas' Orleans Arena Thursday, May 29, Friday, May 30 and Monday, June 2 before returning to Cincinnati for Games 6 and 7, if necessary.

They play at the Orleans? I was wondering why there was a hockey rink in my hotel in Vegas.

This is an awesome series to watch. Both teams play very tough.

I'm predicting a battle to the end....especially since I have to travel the rest of this week and all of next week and am looking to attend Game 7 in Cincinnati!!

Can we catch any of these games on television in the Calgary area?

The attendance at the Orleans has been down over the regular season, which apparently is the norm. I hope we bring out a big crowd for the last 3 games at home though.

No. Baldwin and Cole were left off the playoff roster as they are stacked with defensemen. Since they got a few back from the AHL, Jason Dest and Sean Owens haven't played much in the playoffs and in fact Owens was just placed on IR.

Interesting, mention of 7,703 as the attendance during game 4. http://www.lvrj.com/sports/19422819.html

Aki Seitsonen, a Wranglers center from Finland, scored on the first shot of the game to ignite Las Vegas and most of the 7,703 fans in attendance.

Bad night for Seitsonen then, as he drew a -3.

Las Vegas was FINALLY eliminated from the playoffs tonight in a 3-1 Cincinnati win.

Good season for the Wranglers. Kinda sad it had to end this way, though.

You always hear how "Winning breeds winning", or similar things. I wonder if any of the Wranglers can leverage this in the next level?
