Heh, neat, more ammo.
I come at it from a long term maintenance perspective. A mirror is as simple as it gets. Why do we insist on taking the make fundamentally functional aspects of run of the mill vehicles and doing everything imaginable to convolute it into some cluster#### of thousands of dollars in proprietary components that may or may not be supported by the OEM? A ####ing custom fit in dash video display screen tied to a computer that also powers a camera installed in an exterior housing. There’s multiple components that can, and will, fail or be damaged over the life of the vehicle. Get clipped in a parking lot? $20 convex mirror glass becomes 1000 camera arm. 20 years down the road when electrical gremlins rear their head, and you have no outward visibility? Good luck joe blow, hope you paid attention in electronics class.
It’s everything. Mazda CX-50,stitch work that just ruins the simplicity of the interior and would put a Bill Blass MkIV to shame. On a damn Mazda? Seriously, can’t you just put cloth seats in the ####ing family SUV and save everyone just a bit of design overload? 2-3000 for a headlight? A headlight? Bump your Lexus into a hitch and insurance will lay out enough to make the queen blush. Everyone pays more, all the time, for everything, and it’s all less functional and repairable than what has been replaced.
They’re intended to keep you paying monthly forever. That’s what they want, and we eat that #### up. It’s gross.
Now, if someone who hates new cars has a wife insisting on a new SUV, with cash to purchase, I’m taking recommendations.

Maintenance and reliability aside, you're looking down into your door instead of out towards the road to check your mirror. Basically negating any potential benefit of peripheral vision.
Those mirrors are dumb as hell.

It's worth remembering that for the Ioniq 6 at least, the camera mirrors are just an option, not the standard. And they're not even legal in the US as of now.

Also, the current Volvo V90 is one of the most attractive vehicles of the last 30 years.

Define SUV; we talking compact SUV, mid-sized, or full-sized? Also, what's the price range?

Mid sized - gotta have some cargo space.
$50k max, probably buy used to get closer to $30k.
Sub 50K these days isn’t much of a budget. I don’t give a #### about SUVs and she doesn’t care for flash, so we don’t want to faux vents, 20” wheels, touch screens and power lift gates, which is looking like our options are pretty limited; most of which are heinously ugly.
I’m leaning CX-5, or ‘let’s not purchase at the worst time possible’. But a good starting point?

One of the many reasons why I will probably never buy a new car in my lifetime.

My recommendation is to get a new wife.

Or convince your wife that a wagon is better than an SUV.
I'm a fan of the V60.

We're getting old, all new vehicle prices seem outrageous to me nowadays.

No way. A woman who amongst many other incredible qualities can bring $50k cash to the table to buy her own vehicle? If she was gunning for a bmw or Mercedes, attraction would have been over quite some time ago.
Re telluride, isn’t that thing huge? Like Tahoe/Expedition class?

Telluride is the size of an Explorer. It's a mid-size SUV versus much larger ones like Tahoe/Expedition.

Grand Cherokee, Exploder, Telluride, Palisade, Acadia all mid sized SUVs.
Full sized are the Escalades, Wagoneers, Tahoes, Expeditions, Sequoias of the world.

Well he said he's leaning towards a CX-5, which is more comparable to the Sportage. And if you plunk down the extra cash to get the CX-5 Turbo that's probably the most fun you can have with an SUV in that price range. If storage/people capacity is more important though then definitely the Telluride

The only acceptable SUV is the Trackhawk and that's only because it leans into the stupid.
I agree with the v90 praise though. That's a nice place to be.

The new gen V60s are so great to look at. I wanted one until I did the research. I'm never gonna be a person who buys a brand new car so looking at used and maintenance costs and all that, V60 or any vovlo for that matter are right out my window. Sucks because I'd kill for a v60 polestar or a v90 cross country.

I hate that this is true. Full size SUV's used to be the Cherokees, Durangos, and Explorers. Now they're basically full size pickup trucks with a covered bed
