Friedman: Never got the sense that Flames and Stone close to a deal. Likely hits UFA

On the blue line: the Rangers and Brendan Smith appear headed towards a deal. I never really sensed Calgary and Michael Stone were that close, so he’s likely headed to the market. There seems to be quite a bit of interest in Trevor Daley. It’s believed at least two Canadian teams — Ottawa and Winnipeg — are looking at Dmitry Kulikov as a left-handed option. He played for Guy Boucher in junior, and there’s no way last year is a true indication of his play. Karl Alzner will be an interesting one. One team indicated the price may be between $4-$5 million, and that gives him more options. And a few teams are curious to see if Buffalo makes the biggest pitch for Kevin Shattenkirk.

Tough break, was really hoping to keep him as a #5 who can slide up. Realistically he'd get a lot more money and ice time from other teams looking for a #4 so I can understand why he'd want to test the market.

Not very surprising, he could get a long term deal somewhere else playing more minutes. He really boosted his stock in Calgary and helped solidify the flames top 4. He seemed like a god send after having to watch Brodie carry around a corpse for half the season. He'll be good if he's paired with the right partner on his next team.

Probably would have been happy as the #4, but not willing to play in a bottom pairing role now that Hamonic took that spot. Can't blame him - there should be demand for him as a right shot dman.

I can see him signing in Montreal. They missed out on Methot and Hamonic. Not many left on the market with similar attributes. Plus no need to give up any assets.

Hopefully the Flames can sign a Michael to play defense on July 1st, but if it isn't Stone, that's okay.

Del Zotto, or Kulikov would be decent 5th Dman options. Gives Andersen a real shot to make the team as our 3rd pair RHD
Franson would be a good option for our #5 if they want a RHD

Wonder if the Sens sign him? Would have loved to have him back, but he was likely not enthused by either the role or salary being proposed by the Flames.

Flames don't usually have much success chasing UFA defensemen. I would prefer letting the kids patrol the bottom pairing D instead.
Kulak - Andersson - Bartkowski - Kylington - Wotherspoon could be interchangeable.

Let him walk to Toronto or Ottawa if that's what he wants. Best of luck!
