amazon.com vs amazon.ca
Hey all, I'm looking at ordering about 8 of the same thing from Amazon. The part I'm confused about is they are about $80 a piece cheaper on amazon.com (after converting to CAN$). $80x8.... that's huge. What I don't know enough about is ordering stuff over the boarder, will I face a some fees for this? Would they exceed $640?!?
Thanks.

There's a chance you will be tagged with a duty fee and GST charge, but that's about it.

Depends who you ship with, USPS/Canada post, duty is usually built into the shipping cost up front so no surprises.

So why the hell would I use '.ca'? The huge difference is strange to me. Thanks, I will be avoiding the Canadian site.

If it is sold by Amazon itself (not a 3rd party store, or shipped by them) you are almost certainly paying the import duty/tax up front in your payment on the website. They may refund you back any difference after the fact, I've had them send me a penny 3 months later.
If it is a 3rd party store . . . good luck.

It depends what you buy. There are loads of things that are going to be a better deal on the .ca site. You just need to check both if the pricing on .ca looks out of whack.

Yup, I always check .com first. They usually have way more selection and is still cheaper. Only kicker is the amount of stuff that won't ship to Canada

Not all .com items will ship to Canada, and you (obviously) don't get Prime shipping from .com to Canada.
In fact, I've only successfully ordered 2 or 3 things from .com (most will say "CANNOT SHIP TO ADDRESS" at checkout) in the last 5 years.
If it's more expensive on .ca, it's usually because they were already imported and tariffs/duty are factored into the price.

There can bu HUGE duties and such on the .com if you're shipping to Canada.
I had won a contest and had a bunch of money to spend on .com - looking at a tablet I wanted, after duties & shipping & exchange, it cost MORE from .com than on .ca
Luckily, wasn't my money I was spending

There are also customs brokerage fees. I've had fees from $60 to $145 on stuff from the states. Not much but it's always there and usually different. That's in addition to taxes and tariffs.

If you know someone travelling to the US, try to order it shipped to where they are staying, and they can bring it across for you (assuming they won't be exceeding their exemption limit)

I never have, but tons of other people have used it.
I opened an account, but haven't bought anything that needed it yet.

dumb question, but do places like montanashipping receive it for you and then send it to you with no questions asked. this would presumably allow a person to side step some of the shipping restrictions in place at various websites.
I have only used such places for pick up service
