sadly, players like bouma shouldn't be on your team unless playing a 4th line role / PK.

but at 2.2m - he has priced himself out of this role....and that role can and should be filled by players under 1m per season contracts.

its that kind of budgeting which allows to shell out big dollars on top 6 elite level talent when your role players are on cheap contracts...

right now ...we have almost $10m committed to our 4th line...Bouma-Stajan-Brouwer....it's ridiculous.

I somewhat compare him with Ferland. Ferland doesn't hit as much as when he arrived. At least that's how it appears to me. However, Ferland made up for it with his talent. Bouma doesn't have the talent so needs to hit to be successful. After his shoulder injury his game changed. He stopped hitting with reckless abandon. If his shoulder completely heals and the mental doubt of re-injury goes away he may yet be a good 3rd/4th line winger. I wish him the best.

Bouma is the best value on that line!! I know that CP loves Stajan but I'd imagine that most centers in the Western Conference love Stajan too.

Bouma plays tough on a team that lacks grit. Blocks shots, good on faceoffs, ok on PK. Of course he will be on the opening night roster.

My biggest knock on Bouma last season was that he would practically disappear in the toughest games. In those April games that went sideways (Doughty, Fowler hits) Lance Bouma HAS to be noticeable in a good way. And you end up hardly noticing him at all.

It's sad that the style of play we loved so much from him ultimately turned him into a wasted roster spot. I have to think the guy has been playing with something bothering him. Dude is a firecracker, and I can't imagine he's pulled back from lack of passion.

For what he has brought to the team, and what I hope he can bring again (would also mean his health... which is all-around good) I'd love to see him earn that spot back. But, I hope it's during training camp. A poor showing, and I think it's time to say our goodbyes.

Few brought as much entertainment to the team as he did in recent years though, and I'm glad he was paid for it.

When a plug suddenly shoots like Steven Stamkos, you have to run, as hard as it is. With guys like Bouma it's tough because they are universally loved and put in such a great admirable effort, but that season really sewered expectations. That said, I think he still has some game in him if he can get on a decent run of health and round into form.

No he hasn't. He just isn't good enough to produce his 2014-15 season again.

Playing tough in Bouma's case is negated by the fact that he's simply just not good at other things. Sure, Bouma does block shots and hit, but that means very little because he rarely ever does anything else half decent.

I mean, yeah he hits and he blocks shots, and he'll give you everything he's got. Bless him for that, but that's all he's got and the rest of his game is not at an NHL level.

In other words, yes he has toughness but it's rarely ever functional toughness with him. I mean Bollig has toughness too, but what does that do for him at the NHL? Not much. Okay, Bouma is at least definitely a much better hockey player than Bollig, but still, Bouma sucks as an NHLer.

I wouldn't be so sure that the worst overall regular forward on this team will be on the opening night roster.

I'd love for him to find a new home in the east, I'd much rather his spot go to Grigeranko, or a rookie who's eager to prove himself.

meh, i'd be just fine with Bouma getting <10 points in a season, as long as he finishes every check and gets involved in all the post whistle stuff in games/situations it's required.

He simply doesn't do that, and therefore, the blocking shots and all is nice, but not enough to warrant him an opening day spot in my opinion.

My dream offseason would have seen any or all of bouma/stajan/brouwer shipped out. I am still holding out hope for this!

Bouma, like Glencross is the type of player that is only effective if he is constantly moving his feet. These guys put on a few too many miles and their bodies break down. When they aren't quick anymore and can't hit guys on the forecheck, they are useless. I always feel bad for them because they leave it all out there for the team but their time comes when they just need to pack it in. I like Bouma but this is where you want the next "Bouma" (Hathaway) to come in and giver for a few years until he breaks down.

Hard to even feel sorry for the guy - he wanted to get paid like a solid third liner and then seemingly hasn't put in the work to get there.

Feb 10, 2016: Bouma misses practice; gets benched for a game. That's a season where Bouma had 7 points.

Not much more to be said.

Bouma and Stajan meet Hathaway and Jankowski.

This is why you don't sign bottom-six players to big raises unless they're top ten league-wide at their role. Thankfully Treliving has learned this hard lesson (Colboorne, Chaisson).

Don't begrudge Booms for anything. Hartley used him as a meat shield, and he deserves every penny of that $6.6M.

That being said, park him in Stockton. It'll save 850k. It's only for a year. He's a useful figure in a minor league room, too. Both to remind kids not to get complacent, but also to not sell yourself short when you have the chance to get paid. The owners will waive you in a second, so might as well get as much of that paper as you can.

Also as soon as GG came on board, our team stopped blocking so many shots so Bouma's value has dropped even more..
