He truly was, his system hasn't changed in his entire tenure but the game and his roster has dramatically

I think his record coaching was not far off from Gretzky. I'll have to look it up

They should just get a computer with all the fancy stats loaded in it. Hang a suit on it and no question they would be a power house in no time.

Quite the past week or so for the Coyotes.

Smith - traded to the Flames
Doan - not re-signing with the team
Pulkkinen - claimed by Vegas
Tippett - fired

Who's next to go?

Craig Morgan‏@craigsmorgan
Tip was not a fan of Mike Smith trade, not a fan of how things went down w/Shane Doan. Don't think relationship with Barroway was working.

Tippett vs Gretzky via Reddit post

Quote:
Over the last 5 years Tippett has won 147 games out of 410 games while navigating a coup d'état to gain an executive title, more money from a long extension despite horrible results, factionalized ownership partners and was directly responsible for the firing of Don Maloney to cover his own ass. In the 3 seasons before that he rode an insanely hot Bryz two seasons, an insanely hot Smith one season and had 38/39 year old Ray Whitney carry the team while doing Wizard things.
Wayne Gretzky coached 4 seasons and had 143 wins out of 328 games, his lowest win total was 31(vs 21 for Tip) and he got more out of less talented rosters.
Both coaches were rightly criticized for their handling of younger players and both coaches deserved to get fired. Enough is enough and it's time for a change.

Super. I hope he is never hired in the NHL again. Absolute chicken bleep dumb it down and slow it down is Tippets brand of hockey. If more coaches adopted his style it would ruin the entertainment level of the NHL.

wonder if Playfair gets another shot at head coach:

Craig Morgan @craigsmorgan
Am told no other members of the Coyotes coaching staff were let go, including assistants Jim Playfair, John Slaney & Jon Elkin

The numbers may be right but the spin on why things were good when they were are hilarious.

There isnt many in the game who dont believe Tippett is a tremendous coach.

No doubt he likely overstayed his time in AZ but he will resurface in no time and probably be very successful.

Im just hoping the boy wonder takes over the bench himself to complete the clown show they started down there.

Sure but why would Sutter go to an awful team with no money?

geez..wow.. cringe..???
its 1 thing to not be a fan of advanced stats.. i like them but some are flat out goofy and the guys blabbing them tend to be unbearable (several here ON CP)... so ya. its one thing to not be a fan of them.. but its another to be anti intellectual about the whole thing...
