Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Jankowski- Backlund -M. Frolik
Tkachuk- Bennett-Lazar
Hathaway-Stajan-Brouwer

Bouma
F. Hamilton

Giordano - Hamilton
TJ Brodie - Hamonic
Oduya-Andersson

Bartowksi

Smith
Johnson

Reasons for Oduya
  • A solid veteran to play with a youngster.
  • Still has the ability to play top-4 minutes, which is good depth/insurance in case one of our top-4 goes down with injury.
  • Andersson shoots right; Oduya shoots left
  • Veteran experience for the team
  • Oduya and Andersson are both Swedish, which quicken Andersson's adjustment to the NHL
  • Oduya is one of Kylington's mentors, which will help Kylington's development, especially if Oduya slides into a 6/7 role in 2018-19 (with Kylington as a #6/7)

The connection to kylington would be another reason oduya would be a great depth discussion add.

Anyone know if Shink needs to clear waivers and if so, do we lose him?

Yes he would have to clear waivers. I think there would be a decent chance we would lose him to a team lacking depth. 25% chance imo.

What i'm hoping for. Don't know what the cap would be, but w/e

Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Micheal Ferland
Matthew Tkachuk - Mikael Backlund - Michael Frolik
Patrick Marleau - Sam Bennett - Kris Versteeg
Curtis Lazar - Mark Jankowski - Troy Brouwer

Mark Giordano - Dougie Hamilton
T.J. Brodie - Travis Hamonic
Brett Kulak - Michael Stone

Mike Smith
Eddie Lack

Bouma to AHL, Stajan traded(or if he remains, rotate Stajan and Lazar if need be?)
If not Marleau, Patrick Sharp.
Oduya or Kulikov or Del Zotto?

Giordano - Hamilton
TJ Brodie - Hamonic

Battling for 3rd pair LHD - Kulak, Wotherpsoon, Bartkowski, Kylington
Battling for 3rd pair RHD - Murphy, Andersson

I could easily see another right hand "tweener" brought in to really push the D battle in camp. Guys like Goloubef, Witkowski, Folin or Prosser for example.

Other than that I don't see much else happening with the D.

I suspect the bottom pair plus a press box guy will be Spoon, Murphy and Andersson.

It really is awesome isn't it?

I know that as fans we are prone to overreact but that is honestly an incredible top 4 on paper. Checks so many boxes because of the diversity of strengths within the group.

This is who I'd roll out on opening night. Just for spits and giggles.

Tkachuk - Monahan - Ferland

Gaudreau - Backlund - Frolik

Brouwer - Bennett - Versteeg

Stajan - Jankowski - Lazar

Switch Gaudreau and Brouwer and I like it.

More I think about it the more I like Tkachuk and Monahan together. Two elite guys in the slot. The ugly goals will be numerous.

With:

Bennett @ $2.5m
Ferland @ $1.5m
Lazar @ $874k (QO)

We currently have $7,066,665 in cap space with a 21 man roster.

This line would be hard to contain, if Ferland could find consistency , that could be a good line. Please keep Brouwer away from Bennett.

honestly I expect some kind of bounce-back season from Brouwer. He wasn't protected in the expansion draft, Treliving acknowledged his poor season in interviews, Treliving is making trade after trade and also bought out Bouma. If this offseason doesn't light a fire under Brouwers ass, nothing will.

Justin Williams would give us some formidable forward depth. Do you run Ferland on the third line with Bennett at that point?

All the more reason to put him with Backlund and Frolik. If they can't help him bounce back no one can.
