I think a lot of people are making the assumption that we would permanently stay on DST if this ever happened, but isn't it possible the elimination of DST leaves us on MST time year round? which would absolutely suck.

A little over 4 months. This year MST will be from November 5, 2017 to March 11, 2018.

It is most of the hockey season, and add in LA games that start at 7:30, so that would be 9:30. Earliest those games would end is midnight.

Just leave it the eff alone. If it's not in line with the rest of North America, then the pain of it is not worth it.

I believe the NDP's bill has us on MDT year round, which is actually CST.

Order of preference:

1. - Do the same as the rest of NA and stick with Current DST system
2. Do the same as the rest of NA and go to permanent DST.
.
.
3. Keep Current System even if rest of NA changes (either to permanent daylight or standard)
4. Go to permanent DST, even if rest of NA goes to permanent standard time
.
.
.
.
.
5. Go to permanent Standard time along with the rest of NA
.
.
6. Go to permanent Standard time apart from what rest of NA does.

In short - Current System is slightly better than permanent Daylight time, both of which are much better than permanent standard time. Doing what the rest of NA does is more important than what we do for time changes, unless the rest of NA goes to permanent Standard time, then we should not do what they do.

This is what it feels like to have an NDP government. You feel like you 'won' something by them electing to not change things for the worse from the status quo.

Of note, the committee recommended that the government work with other jurisdictions on the possibility of doing it country or continent wide, which makes a hell of a lot more sense.

Is the consensus that sticking with winter time is better than summer time as well?

No,

The stupid people want extra morning sun (see the linked comments)
The smart people want evening sun.

Sticking with winter time would be awful. Why would we want sunlight between 4.15 am and 5:15 am in June. - instead of between 9 and 10 pm?
