Well at least they salvaged one game in that series the boneheads.

I don't know where you guys get the idea that Bautista is a clubhouse cancer or bad in the locker room from. I have never heard anything like that from anyone except people looking for an excuse to justify hating him more.

We've seen that bat flip/stare down many times when he's pissy. He's done it to O'Day a couple/few times for sure and other times he's homered when tensions are higher. So while I won't pretend to know what he's like in the clubhouse, this is nothing more than Jose being Jose.

Where are people saying he was a clubhouse cancer? I don't think he is for the Jays.
He is an outright demonstrative prick though that appears to be somewhat selfish, and no one outside of the Jays has an ounce of respect for him. I think his actions really hurt the Jays in the eyes of the umps that call their games.
Remember what the Orioles GM said about him this summer? This stuff isn't just being made up by "Bautista haters".

Yea, I get the criticism of Bautista, TAO, but you might not want to use the quote of a GM who used a phrase that is often associated with "he's not white enough" to reinforce said argument.

I suggest you take a trip down to Baltimore if you think a comment that was meant to say "He's not white enough". That type of stuff won't fly there. Baltimore has the third largest African American population in the US (roughly 65% of the population of the city).
Aside from that, this team's starting lineup includes Adam Jones, Manny Machado, Jonathan Schoop, and Hyun Soo Kim, and the Orioles have routinely faced the same criticism Bautista does for not playing the game "traditionally". Bautista would actually fit in pretty well with that team from the outside looking in.
I think your "Not White Enough" is a figment of the imagination of the Toronto media. It's because Bautista is an #######, plain and simple.

Yeah, really good start. That was a really long gamble that AA took on him but it looks like it may pay off. Excited to see him... the guy is a true athlete, if he can just get a bit more power he'll be a legit 5 Tool guy.

Think Alford will lead off given his speed? I hope they ease him to the lineup.

No, it's not. When Duquette was running his mouth he used some language that (at least in the past) that has been regarded as racial code. I even saw Oriole fans facepalming over it a bit at the time.
I don't think Dan Duquette is racist, either in this instance or in general, I just think he lost out on signing Bautista and then decided to try pandering to the fans and probably unbeknowingly used those words.

Lost out on signing Bautista? Bautista crawled back to Toronto with his tail between his legs. I think if the Orioles wanted Bautista, Bautista would be an Oriole. I don't think the Jays really wanted Bautista back either, but given the Edwin departure and lack of offseason moves, they lived with a one year deal to stop a complete fan revolt.

Dan Duquette is a tool. They weren't signing him anyway.
In terms of the clubhouse stuff, i was referring to this comment:
Quote:
He's going to have a hard time finding a place to play next year. Other teams don't want him in their clubhouse.
|
Frankly, you have no evidence of this outside of the Odor fight and Duquette comments.
You are also associating Bautista's lack of offseason interest with his personality and style. not the fact that he is 37 and coming off an injury plagued down year.

Really excited to see Alford. Might be a big part of this team for a long time.
