@KristenOdlandCH: #Flames GM Brad Trelving said they are searching for depth at the blueline and have talked to some players about tryouts for fall camp.

Treliving has mentioned a desire to improve the D group a few times this offseason. I'll be curious to see if any invites take place and pan out.

At this stage it looks like Cundari is a lock forte 7 spot unless a guy like Wortherapoon or Sieloff somehow finds a home in the top 6 out of camp. I don't see the flames letting those prospects be a 7th guy when they can be top 5 in the A. There is a need for some depth and still hoping a McQuaid or Bartkowski falls to us for cheap

Maybe they think Cundari could use another season in the AHL.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Derek Morris in camp.

Its pretty doubtful that he ever becomes an NHL regular. NHL teams don't loan out guys they think have a future to other teams.

The Flames can probably find a serviceable NHL defenceman through try outs . Not sure who is left.

According to his interview on 960, Treliving seemed to suggest they were just looking to add defensive depth in general, not someone who would definitely play in the NHL.

I'm pretty sure Andrew Alberts is still concussed.

I will be a little disappointed if it's only a depth dman that is added between now and training camp. If that's the case:

Raymond replaces Cammalleri
setoguchi replaces stempniak
Engelland replaces Butler
Hiller replaces Berra

Other than that, it's the same old Calgary Flames from 2013-14. There was a lot of talk that if they did things right this off season, they could contend for a playoff spot. These changes won't be enough, which is disappointing given the talk after the hire. Admittedly there is time before opening day which could see changes.

Not trying to derail the thread, but adding marginal depth on d, while interesting given the lack of news, is kind of like a flat ending to a movie.

I don't think many people were/are seriously thinking that.
