Default Snoring Aids in Calgary

My current better half has been complaining about my snoring affecting quality of sleep. Does anybody currently use snoring products and have you found them to be effective?

Any recommendations for any specific ones or where to purchase them in Calgary? I don't think the nasal strips do anything since snoring is caused by the windpipe being compressed when you are lying down. I saw something online that looks like a mount retainer that pushes your jaw forward to open the windpipe.

I go to Dentrix in Market...Dr Fahlman

Depending on why you snore...they can whip up a mouthpiece that moves your jaw forward a bit and open your throat and stop your snoring.

Not cheap though

Yeah get a sleep study done, they are easy and they'll tell you if you're stopping breathing in the middle of the night. I did and I don't have sleep apnea, I just snore sometimes.

If you do then you might need a cpap machine, which will alleviate the snoring as well as helping you sleep better. The doctor I talked with said the mouthpieces don't work as well for men and said if I needed something he'd recommend the machine vs the mouthpiece.

Either way if you have sleep apnea insurance might pay for it, the machines and mouthpieces are both expensive.

The easiest would be a separate bedroom, which to me makes a lot of sense, why socially do we decide that sacrificing sleep quality so people can sleep in the same bed is important?

Back on topic - my benefits provider won't cover a CPAP machine and I've considered buying something online from Ontario or the states. Unfortunately it seems like you'll need a doctors note before they'll let you order one.

I think there was a thread about this within the last few months however sleep quality is severely under-appreciated.

You could try one of those $50 mouth guards from Walmart, otherwise your alternatives are expensive.

Chap machine is $1900, and the custom made mouth guard is $3000.

Plus the sleep test

Otherwise, everyone suggests losing weight.

I don't recommend a dental appliance.

CPAP is the gold standard of treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. It will work 100% of the time.

A dental appliance may or may not work (usually not), and when all is said and done you will be out thousands of dollars for something that may not work.

Get a sleep study done, if you have obstructive sleep apnea give a CPAP machine a shot. Most respiratory companies will let you trial it for a few weeks before making you buy it.

Get a sleep study done and then if you need one they'll tell you what pressure you need. Then buy one on Kijiji for cheap, and buy new mask hose etc.

Just don't ask why they don't need it anymore.

I ordered and use the Pure Sleep mouth guard. Ordered after seeing the commercial over and over. Took a few weeks to get used to, and sometimes it falls out of my mouth if I'm in a really deep sleep... But it works like a charm. No snoring at all. +/- $80. My wife thinks it's the best $80 ever spent.

Definitely get a sleep study. If you have sleep apnea then snoring is the least of your worries.

Those mouth guard things are garbage.

The dental appliances work good but they are expensive and they are hard on your teeth, they need to fit perfectly.

You may need to bite the bullet and go with CPAP, it really is the best solution in most cases.

You are seriously one of the most offensive posters on this board, surprised the mods haven't told you to tone it down.

Try BreatheEasy nose strips (cloth, not plastic). They are amazing and inexpensive.

When I had my tonsils out they also did some work to stop my snoring. According to my wife it worked.

Not always, some people snore regardless of weight.

He's right when it comes to some people. I'm 6'1, 185lbs and I snore like a banshee. Definitely not overweight.

For sure. But in general, being overweight is highly correlated to snoring more so I don't think that poster deserved to be reprimanded for saying so.
