Flames Kypreos: Flames still kicking tires on MAF

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/n...-andre-fleury/

Quote:
The Calgary Flames were linked in trade rumours to Marc-Andre Fleury around the 2016 draft.

At that point in time, Eric Francis reported that Pittsburgh Penguins GM Jim Rutherford asked for the Flames' sixth-overall pick in return.

Calgary said no go, and smartly selected Matthew Tkachuk.

Well, it may be a trade worth revisiting with the deadline just days away and Calgary in need of dependable goaltending to get into the playoffs.

"I still hear they're kicking tires on Marc-Andre Fleury," Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos said on Hockey Central at Noon Thursday.

Please no....he just isnt the guy he was a few years ago anymore. I'd much prefer to just ride Elliott the rest of the way.

Is it confirmed that Fleury would waive to come here?

Even if he will I hope we aren't offering a lot.

It's not just this season Brad's concerned about.

I would be ok with this if the cost was reasonably low. PIT was rumoured to want #6 at the draft... glad that was a hard no.

MAF is what he is at this point, I'd take a shot with him as opposed to trading for or signing Bishop. But the acquisition cost has to be low.

Though Fleury has a GAA of 3.17 and SV% of .904 through 29 games. Not much better than Elliott's 2.79 and .898 though 29 games as well.

Elliott's stats are being pulled down by his bad start.

Basically MAF only seems like a better option if the cost is laughably low.

God I hope not. Pens are the one's over a barrel here, with limited suitors to bail them out.

Pitt may be in a position where they have to take what they can get. They either lose MAF for a song to a team at the deadline, or he gets picked by Vegas and they get nothing.

I'd be open to it, but not actively rooting for it.

OK....that doesn't mean he will be any better next season.

There will be many options this summer, including MAF, so IMO there is zero reason to do this now.

Isn't the risk losing Matt Murray? I thought they had to protect MAF.

Yeah, they would theoretically have to protect him and lose Murray to Vegas, but there's virtually zero chance of that situation happening. The Pens would sooner buy him out.

Well they will take a goalie back.
I'm guessing Elliott would go the other way.

Has Kypreos been correct on any Flames related rumour? Not that "kicking tires" is definitive of anything, but it seems like he has stirred the pot on Flames related matters in the past and has been way off.

Yeah the reason Rutherford is reluctant to move MAF is that he wants him as insurance in case Murray gets injured.

He only moves MAF before the deadline if he gets a goaltender he trusts back or acquires one in another deal.

Maybe if Pitt retains a lot of salary and it's for futures.

Yup MAF straight up for one of our goalies is the only way that happens. Even then they probably win that trade with MAF'S cap hit.
